According to the article, they aren't expecting Universal and Paramount to start releasing "new theatricals" on Blu until "late Spring or early Summer".

Sounds like you might have a few months to wait.

BTW, my next door neighbor (who already has a PS3) decided to skip the waiting and picked up one of the $79 Toshiba A3s at Costco. With 7 movies and an HDMI cable in the deal, he said he felt like he was getting the player for free. Now, like me, he's waiting to pounce on any hot HD DVD disc sales that will surely be coming along.

to those who think Paramount should cancel HD DVD releases... silly, there are alot of hd dvd owners. i think it would be great to have some continued releases so that owners of hd dvd players get some content options. they do reserve some respect.

but ... i would like to see paramount stepping back to blu-ray also!

i think paramount should do what warners did. continue to support hd dvd for a period of time.

so... their announcement of THERE WILL BE BLOOD for HD DVD is welcome, but i'd like to see a blu-ray version (thats the version i will buy)

Talk about waiting a few months! I would be willing to bet real money that I will get a new Paramount and Universal title in Blu-ray before your neighbor sees 5 of those 7 free discs coming in the mail. 12 weeks now since I sent my offer in, and nothing (I did call the other day and they confirmed receipt and said that everything was a go as soon as a new shipment of the HD-DVDs I ordered came in). Also, he better get that offer in quick, because they are changing documents as we speak to improperly deny those free discs.

Transformers with lossless audio please!...and going forward lossless for every other disc released....couldn't stand how they limited Blu-ray with standard Dolby Digital.

That's actually a sweet deal. Considering 2 movies cost 50 to 60 bucks and a HDM cable is 6 bucks online, but 40 bucks in store.

I wonder what movies he got with it? I honestly couldn't deal with the excess bulk, but if it doesn't bother some then what the hey. It's all about the movies.

Nice, so late Spring/Early Summer we can expect BD releases. It's great to see Hollywood Reporter - a very credible source; properly refer to the Big 6 as major studios, and Lionsgate as a mini-major. I wonder how everything went down, looking forward to Penton's take on the money issue.

Now all six majors back one format.
