Default It's Official: Uni goes Blu

http://www.homemediamagazine.com/new...ticle_id=12118

"While Universal values the close partnership we have shared with Toshiba, it is time to turn our focus to releasing new and catalog titles on Blu-ray," said Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

"The path for widespread adoption of the next-generation platform has finally become clear. Universal will continue its aggressive efforts to broaden awareness for hi-def’s unparalleled offerings in interactivity and connectivity, at an increasingly affordable price. The emergence of a single, high-definition format is cause for consumers, as well as the entire entertainment industry, to celebrate."

Discuss.

Edit: Special thanks to aurevoir05 for the link on bluray.com. He should get the credit.

Nice find - but, again no surprise there - They have no choice - I hope they do a good job on transfers - Hopefully, they don't try to re-cooperate their loses with HD DVD and make customer pay through blu-ray Disk with high prices

Serenity UK edition on Red is a feast for the eyes when it gets to the bit when they're sneaking through that nasty bit of space... with the reavers.... or however you spell it

Well I thought Universal might be the sticky one. If they are going Blu already then there should be no question on Paramount going Blu as well.

Awesome news.

I wonder how long it will take Universal to release their titles on Blu-ray? Would they have to recode them all?

Top on my Universal want list:
Hot Fuzz
Shaun of the Dead
Land of the Dead
The Bourne Trilogy
Dead Silence

I doubt they lost much on HD-DVD. It doesn't look like they spent too much effort remastering some of their titles.

I do think we will be stuck with the same masters for a while though until they get into Blu-ray properly. Thats true with more studios than them though. Now that the pointless format war is over the next battle is to convince studios to spend the time and money to do better transfers of old catalog titles.
