Default Reuters: Toshiba source confirms HD DVD reports

A source at Toshiba confirmed an earlier report by public broadcaster NHK that it was getting ready to pull the plug.

"We have entered the final stage of planning to make our exit from the next generation DVD business," said the source, who asked not to be identified. He added that an official announcement could come as early as next week.

I wonder how Universal will feel about switching formats with no payoff? ...if that's the case.

They can hate Sony all they want....they also LOVE MONEY

If Blu-Ray is the next dominant format some how they will put their hate for Sony behind their LOVE for MONEY.

Regardless, they are a public company & have an obligation to their share holders that supercedes any Sony love / hate issues.

Not a sad day at all man. Just think, it was fun while it lasted, we got some GREAT deals on good hardware and good movies. HDM is still around, just in another form. The SAME experience (for the most part) awaits you on the other side.....

Cool No Contest. . .

I'm Glad I didn't Invest in a combo Player! Let's face it, no company in the video business is gonna make it with only two major studios, while the other has at least six!

I'm SUPER glad I invested in a combo player. Other than my projector, its the BEST investment in home theater I have ever made. Easily..... Heck, at $219, it was $55 less than my first DVD player!

Do these companies have no control over their staff or PR people?

Its like every week another "inside source" tells us things they shouldnt be, instead of getting an official statement. Why cant these companis just be honeset and tell us officially or keep their staff under control.
