Default Toshiba to drop HD DVD, sources say

Does anyone know how credible this is?

Toshiba is widely expected to pull the plug on its HD DVD format sometime in the coming weeks, reliable industry sources say, after a rash of retail defections that followed Warner Home Video's announcement in early January that it would support only the rival Blu-ray Disc format after May.

The Hollywood Reporter is a pretty credible website. I doubt they'd print something like that if it were garbage. It's rumor, but it's probably pretty well founded rumor.

That article also leaks the apparent ratios and top sellers for the week also.

Coming from the Hollywood Reporter, this is very credible.

HD DVD fanboys will dismiss it as unimportant.

well gee... nothing new in that story except a trumped up headline. of course "reliable industry sources" say they expect it to happen but it is all speculation. toshiba even denied it.

As a Blu ray convert, originally an HD DVD fan... I gotta say the writing has been on the wall for over a year now. If they do end this nonsense, then it'll mean good things for all. I just wonder if Toshiba will make dual-format players going into the future or if they'll leave their supporters hanging...

You know that there will still be some people that will claim HD-DVD can pull a win even after that.
