This perfectly explains Disney's heavy Blu-ray push. Their DVD revenues are decreasing and they want Blu-ray to fill the gap as quickly as possible.

Honestly, not really. The Blu-ray push was going to happen either or. Granted, expectations of DVD declines are behind it, but not this particular quarter on quarter difference. Truthfully the big differentiators are lesser sales on pirates/Pixar versus 06 and the lack of a major DTV title like Little Mermaid 2 last year.

Is that seriously MG? I didn't expect him to show his face again after the Warner announcement. Especially after hits like this one:

Didn't there used to be a post about how DVD sales has dropped last year? Don't think this is exclusive to only Disney, but rather an industry wide phenomenon. To blame this solely on BD is incorrect. It is, instead, the fault of this HDM that caused drop in profit. Hence, each studio would much likely want to see an end to this non-sense in order to grow this upcoming holiday season.

That's correct, DVD sales were down slightly industry-wide.

I did, but instead of reading an article by some Internet writer I read the actual earnings report released from Disney. They clearly state that while operating income was down, revenues were still essentially flat. Income being down was based on lower unit sales compared to last year.
They showed the movie comparison that created this, Each one had a Pirates movie 2 vs 3, {2 was the much bigger movie}.
Each one had a Platinum release, Little Mermaid vs Jungle book, {Mermaid was a bigger draw on video, Mermaid on Dvd at this time is Disney's highest selling platinum release of all time}.
And each one had a new release, Cars vs Ratatouille, {Cars was a much bigger draw and money maker}.
So it shouldn't come as a shock that this year didn't move as many units as last based on that alone, but since your so into "reality" it really shouldn't surprise you the most. -

@OP,
Thanks for confirming what we already know. DVD profits are falling. Hence the reason why Warner switched to Blu-Ray and the same reason why Universal and Paramount will follow. The studios want a new medium so revenue and profits increase and Blu-Ray is a big part of that plan. -

Love all the hypocrites who are flaming the OP yet turn a blind eye to the multitude of posts that speculate just as (if not more) wildly about Paramount, Universal, Microsoft and Toshiba.
Writhe in your hypocrisy you wear it well. -

Wow, with DVD profits falling fast, it looks like Warner, Disney, Fox and Sony have all made the right choice to support the single future format. Imagine how low their profits would be if they were throwing money into the HD DVD sinkhole!
