Default National Geographic Follows Warner, Goes Blu-Ray Exclusive

National Geographic, which is distributed by Warner Bros., has just sent retailers info on their next high def release, the day & date title "Sharkwater". The title will not be coming out on HD-DVD even though it releases on 4/8, well before Warner's June cut off date. This leaves the BBC as the only Warner distributed label to currently stand by their neutral stance.

Bummer. I'll get this, but I only have one BD player, so that'll limit my viewing a bit.

National Geographic Films has myriad of partners, usually WB and they also have an agreement with Viacom's Paramount-Vantage. National Geographic Films' Artic Tale was exclusive to HD DVD. They have a new documentary about whales that Paramount is handling (due Winter 2009), so that will presumably be only on HD DVD. AFAIK the catalogs are in agreement to be distributed by WB and with only one release under their belt, which didn't fair well, not surprised they will follow the strategy of the distributor: WB. NGF has an agreement to produce new theatrical films thru Paramount-Vantage.

BUT BUT... BUT BUT... next week it will all change! $20 HD-DVD players being given away with gas fill-ups will turn the tide of this war! Mark my words!

Do you seriously think this war will still be going on in the winter of 2009?

Hence why I said "presumably." Besides, who would have believed you if a year ago you told them, the war would still exist as of Holiday 2007?

I've got an HDTV in the bedroom, living room and home office. I have HD DVD players for each. Due to circumstance I've only got 1 Blu-Ray player, so BD movie viewing is a bit limited for me.

why on earth would you want to watch a movie in a home office???

Go give some money to starving africans or something opposed to having 3 HDTV's and 4 next gen players!

No worries man, you've still got 'Cecilia & Bryn at Glyndebourne' & 'Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 2 - Resurrection' coming out on HD DVD so all is not lost.
