I apologize to HDD and anyone mislead/excited/angered/etc by my thread. It was certainly not my intention.

Not good news to me as an HD DVD supporter, but I felt I had to post this anyway.

I'm posting this from work (Circuit City) right now, and I just noticed something not good: The Toshiba HD-A3 and HD-A30 players are now listed as clearance items.

The GOOD news is that this means that the prices are even lower now, with the HD-A3 being $100.04 and the HD-A30 being $149.99. But the bad news is, with no 4th-Gen players in sight to replace these, it looks like Circuit City may be giving up on HD DVD players.

Though I wonder, with the dual format players now in our stores and in our ads, if they'd still keep the software even if they drop the players...

could mean the "new" gen 4 players are on the way
only Zombie, Jadedeath, and Poly really know the answer.
So hopefully they will chime in soon.

That is interesting, but it could just amount to an unusual choice as to how to market the players. And I'm sure they would continue to sell software as long as sales of red discs warranted stocking them.

Wow, with "clearance" on the tags we may have the first eveidence of TS calling it quits. If no 4th gen players are announced then we know for sure.

My money bet is that the next player TS puts out is a dual.

I hope that's the case...

We have 2 Open Box HD-A3s, which just means that they've been opened already, and they're priced at $80! That'd still get you 7 free movies, too.

The Panasonic BMPBD10AK is also on clearance now at $224.97.

I'm not surprised. I'm still waiting for them to hit $50 mark before I buy myself a " backup" player

Historically, Toshiba has not had a good relationship with Circuit City, have they? I remember years ago when I was shopping for a TV they did not have any Toshiba models at all and a friend who worked there said he doubted I would ever see them carry them, something about Toshiba and Circuit City not getting along. Perhaps it was fallout from DVD/DIVX. Anyway, if a major chain was going to drop HD DVD it would make sense for Circuit City to lead the way if this was the case. In my area, all the Best Buys have equal HD DVD/Blu-ray space but back in December Circuit City had 5 rows of Blu-ray and 3 rows of HD DVD.

Im what does the Panny look like? How are the load times?

Are these clearances always national or sometimes are they regional?

This is true. It wasn't until about a year ago that we even started carrying Toshiba products.
