Default NPD Reports Blu-Ray trouncing HD DVD Hardware Sales

I know many HD folks hate the digital bits, but here it is:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents

These numbers do NOT include the PS3 or Xbox360 Add-on:

Current/Overall

Week Ending 1/12

Of course, this doesn't take into account the recent slash-o-rama on the HD DVD units, but I found it interesting, nonetheless.

Wow... 60:40 in December is quite impressive.

But the consumer wont know or care about Warner's decision. Btw they could've made the graphs more clear, I had to read the post to see the top ones are for the whole months, whilst the bottom the last two weeks respectively.

Also volume only seems *slightly* down in week 2, meaning a huge HD-DVD player drop-off and a big BD sales pickup.

I assume these figures include the "free" players scanned with the TVs. Great promotion, considering that HDTVs are undoubtedly selling in far greater numbers than HD players.

No, and it doesn't include the Xbox 360 Add on, either.

The data that follows does NOT include sales of Sony's PlayStation 3 or the HD-DVD add-on drive for Microsoft's Xbox 360. These are stand-alone, set-top players only.

What I find interesting is that it was reported that for Q4 HD DVD represented 50% standalone sales, but I see there using weeks for January.

Billy the Hunt forgot to show last weeks HD DVD SA sales. You know, the week when they dropped the prices?

That graph was a YTD graph, not just Q4.

I think what Toshiba actually said is that the overall market share for 2007 had them at just over 50%.

Earlier in 2007 their share was more like 60% so it was dropping off in the last part of the year.

You mean when everyone woke up one day and found out about the $50-$100 discounts on HDDVD players, but they actually REALLY didnt give a shit.

I cannot wait until I see last week and this week's HDDVD player market share...It will be about 5-10% and Bluray will be about 90%

I cannot wait until I see last week and this week's failing HDDVD player market share...One day it was the Christmas effect, now its the $149 HDDVD player, next it's going to be, JUST WAIT until Next Christmas when HDDVD sales REALLY take off....more like take off the face of this planet and into outerspace where it will never be found again.
I'm sorry that you don't like HD DVD and have never been able to benefit from it's many pleasures it has to offer.
