Default Retailers Make More Room For Blu-ray

Just posted:

Quote:
According to a new Video Business report, some retail chains have begun adjusting their high-def shelf space to make more room for Blu-ray discs (and less for HD DVD).

The industry trade says that Trans World Entertainment, Newbury Comics, Video Buyers Group members and Hastings Entertainment are among the retailers beginning to emphasize Blu-ray in the wake of Warner's announcement that it would abandon its support of the HD DVD format as of this coming June.

Thats great news! So when will HDD lose that pesky red tab at the top of the navbar? Its wasting precious space and confusing consumers!

I will believe it when I see it. I went shoping on Saturday and the shelves were still the same. 50/50.

I will admit at my local Best Buy that shelf space is still equal...

The Blu Ray section always looks a little more picked through

My Local best buys seem to be doing this. Although there is one (Manchester, NH) that is still sticking with 50:50 shelf space. I will be interested to see when that one changes. That will be the indicator for me that this is really happening.

This is exactly how it should be. Let consumers decide. It would only make sense for Blu-ray to have more space, being they have every studio but 2. On the same note, retailers should not stop carrying HD-DVD as long as people want to buy them. Sometimes people around here says retailers should make decisions...I am of the opinion that consumers should make the decisions, and retailers should give the consumers what they want.

This is a perfectly natural process, and things are going as they should given the market.

OMG....

Where in the OP does it say that Best Buy is giving Blu-ray more space on the shelves?

Enough with the stories.

I guess Iphones, any music with the f word in them, and hybrid cars, make that cars in general aren't mainstream then because Walmart doesn't carry them, hence they COULDN'T POSSIBLY be mainstream

FYE who charges $39.99 per HDM title. Funny they mention Hastings, who was previously compensated to endorse BD over HD last year, so not too surprise. That and both Target and Blockbuster giving priority to BD. Hasn't lead to much changes. When a retailer declares "we are abandoning HD DVD from our shelves" then I say that's news.

I noticed in 2 local Targets that the BD section is more than twice the size of the HD-DVD section. Both sections were the same size during the holidays.

If this becomes a trend it will make an impression on consumers. A shrinking HD-DVD section will impact hardware sales. They average around $29 per title.

When Warner stops supporting HD DVD in may, you will see at least 33% of the current HD DVD titles gone from the shelfs. While in Best Buy over the week end I noticed that they had more Blu-ray than HD DVD and the same at Target and a least 33% of the HD DVD's were Warner videos.

Bye, Bye HD DVD sorry to see you go.
