Default Nielsen CW2 (ending 13/1): 85:15 BD:HD

We have some early information from a Home Media Magazine article discussing HD DVD announcements:

Quote:
The product announcements come in a week when the top 10 high-definition disc sellers are all Blu-ray Disc releases, according to an analysis of Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales numbers by Home Media Magazine’s market research department.

Net HD DVD sales, according to Nielsen, constituted only 15% of hi-def disc sales last week. And the top HD DVD seller, The Kingdom, sold just 10% as many copies as the top Blu-ray Disc release, 3:10 to Yuma.

As a former hardcore HD DVD fan, this is like watching someone I love get their ass kicked and refusing to give up. They lost a lot of customers when Warner went Blu, and it will only get worse after May. I hope this can end by then and we can all move on.

In before "with Warner and the PS3, Blu-Ray should be selling 99:1, so really HD DVD is winning"

I really wonder how long Universal and Paramount can ignore consumer demand?

Remember when all the reds were saying shit like, "BD should be outselling HD DVD by 5:1. Haha"? Well, now we are.

The news has been spreading that it's safe to buy Blu-ray. Even though HD DVD's players are cheaper and final spec, what matters most is THE MOVIES.

And look what it took to finally reach this ratio.

Wow, 85:15??!! I only expect things to get worse for HD DVD as the weeks roll along.

I guess that all of the hardcore HD guys on here swearing that the WB announcement made them go out and buy more HD DVD titles this week really aren't indicative of the market at large. Strange...

I did. It took Warner and allegedly $500 million in incentives (although I still doubt there was a payoff, but whether there was or wasn't is irrelevant).

It doesn't matter what it took because we're here.

Did anyone NOT expect this? Please! The ratios are still largely controlled by early adopters who are aware of whats going on with this war. I'm surprised it wasn't 100/0. Almost everyone and their mother who owns an HD DVD player now probably stopped buying movies while in shock. We will have to see if that ratios remains the same or gets worse the rest of the year. Any Nostradumbasses want to go on record with a prediction using your supreme powers?

I could understand you guys thumping your chests if this was because of a leap in blu-ray sales numbers, but because of a decrease on the other side..? I don't think anyone expected good numbers for HD DVD. More a question of just how bad they were gonna be.

At this point, most of us who are looking for an end to this stupid format war don't really care how it happens. Anyone expecting a big jump in BD sales because of the WB announcement is likely to be disappointed in the near future. Holidays are over and any new adopters will only partially offset the expected downturn in sales that always happens after the Christmas season. Now it just remains to be seen whether or not Toshiba's "new" strategy of lower priced hardware translates into additional HD software sales to stem the bleeding...
