Well judging by the interest on the AVS forum thread regarding the 360 HD-DVD, it seems the interest for HD-DVD is only just picking up...

People who think HD DVD is going to get killed once the PS3 is out are wrong.
People who think HD DVD will continue to outsell Blu-ray by a large margin are wrong.

That may be my opinion but it's so close to being a fact it's funny.

Generally my opinion as well. I think they will both survive, Blu-Ray still has prove itself in the market, but I think that it will eventually. I don't even worry about HD-DVDm I think it has already proven itself.

HD DVD is going to continue to push the pricing issue much to the chagrin of the BDA.

With new levels of LSI integration from NEC, Broadcom and Amtel I think you will see cheaper players next year with more features and more profitability for the manf.

Both formats should survive but it's going to be interesting to see how they can differentiate themselves from each other. They are so close right now it's hard to call.

This is it! Once everyone accepts this as the bottom line of what it is all about, this is where the advantage that Blu-ray has becomes paramount to the formats success.

In a year, movie quality will be identical - some will look great, others will be spectacular - from both formats.

In a year, price, for the same quality of player, will be the same, or close, from both formats.

In a year, there will be many standard features for players, on both formats, at about the same price point.

Yes, this all requires a fairly faithful 'SHOULD' before it... But, it would be in line with most technological developments in a normal market.

What differentiates Blu-ray? More studios, more CE support. As long as no studios flop in the next year (not definite) and as long as all the major CE players are still there (also not definite) than that is what will push Blu-ray as the winning format.

I mean, if price is identical AND image quality is identical, than what is the next item consumers will care about?

I have an Onkyo AVR and DVD player. Frankly I'm not that impressed with the BD players out now. The Pioneer is the only one I really have any sort of lust for. The rest of them seem overpriced. I'll get excited about CE support when I see Onkyo, Denon, Marantz, NAD and Rotel making players.

I expect to see some studios flip. Blu-ray may get Universal and I think LGF is still going to come over and Disney will be over late next year. I have my doubts that Blu-ray will be able to keep up with the HD DVD price cuts. Sure they have a subsidized Playstation to flog but by mid next year we should be at $399 for a solid HD DVD player and less for a China made unit.

    Still too close to call.

Maybe we can have a draft for remaining companies?

Since we are behind (for one more week) we get to pick the first company of what is left...

    I call Denon!!!

You guys can have Rotel as a freebie whenever you want him.
