Default Sony Reports Strong PS3 Holiday Sales

Just posted:

Quote:
Increasing Blu-ray's North American installed base by nearly 25% in one fell swoop, Sony is reporting stronger-than-ever holiday sales numbers for its PlayStation 3 game console.

According to a company press release, Sony sold through 1.2 million units of the PS3 in the period beginning Friday, November 23, 2007 and ending December 31, 2007.

I am so glad I went Tru-Blu last year and have continued to support the Blu-Ray format. Excellent news. This is why WB is with us exclusively.

Unfortunetly the XBox 360 still had much more sales though in the same time period. From a gaming standpoint, this is bad news, especially when some people buy the PS3 only for playing movies.

Although I love my PS3 and think that it's the best bang for the money from every angle. I think that manufacturers, and retailers, need to start lowering the price of their players real fast if they want a wider adoption. I'm set with my PS3, but wouldn't mind having a stand alone for other rooms at something under $200.

Also, retailers need to cut the crap selling old movies for $25 and $30+. That's ridiculous. Considering that not everyone is aware of coupons and sales, the public in general doesn't seem to be driven into buying the media for twice and sometimes 4-5 times the cost of a SD-DVD. Lower the prices now.

it's cool, but it sucks they crippled the 40gb model... it would probially make more people happier if it had ps2 game support in it (the reason why i traded my ps2 for a 60gb ps3)... I sill love my 360 for gaming a lot better and all my friends are 360 gamers.

I might get a 40 gig for the bedroom. The 60 will stay in the main livingroom, though.

I love being able to stream music and movies from my computer.

That's the main reason I'd probably go with another PS3 instead of a stand alone - having my house wired (actually, wireless) as one big media center.

Very cool.

In terms of the Xbox vs PS3 competition, the 360 is in a very strong position in the US, pitiful position in Japan, and a fairly strong position elsewhere, but this is not bad news for the PS3 considering where it came from.

The PS3 is now outselling the 360 in Europe (so will eventually catch up in installed base). The PS3 is still behind in sales in the US, but is in a much better position now than it was 6 months ago. And now there is no question that the Blu-ray player is going to be a big plus for the PS3. I think it will start to overtake the 360 in the US by 2009.

Hopefully 2008 will put the claims that the PS3 "has no games" to sleep once and for all.

PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NO MORE DELAYS!!!!!!

has any credible source released the 360 sales number yet?

Ps3 sold millions without a killer app.
no halo 3. no bioshock. no mass effect.
people are waiting for a reason to buy a PS3.

Don't forget if you have a psp you can turn on you ps3 at any wi-fi or wireless internet spot and stream you videos and music from the ps3 or you pc. So you can listen to your entire music collection while waiting for a plane at the airport.

Do replacement 360's get counted as sales? Given their spotty reliability, I mean?

Thanks for making my argument. People rather have a game console that dies and spits smoke at them then get a PS3.
