Wedding Shirt,
I know we had our disagreement the other day, but I would like to congratulate you for being realistic about HD DVD's fate. As for your question, just wait a week and see what CES brings us in terms of announcements. I'm sure the BD OEM's were waiting to capitalize on this moment to announce some new players.
Personally, I bought my PS3 once I heard that it would be 1.1 compliant. Although it's 99% sure that it will be 2.0 as well, downloadable content doesn't do anything for me with regard to movies.
Also, while I've bought Sony products for years, I've always been opposed to their gaming systems (refused to own one). I was Nintendo all the way. But as a gaming device, the PS3 has plenty of potential. I would recommend you maybe give it another thought if you're open to the idea. It really is well made IMO. -

You know how awful the PS3 is???? You obviously don't if anything sony is out of the question. The PS3 is an awesome piece of equipment. If they wanted, Sony could release an update to play HD DVD's but not likely since Warner came into the fold. Get the Panasonic if you must be stubborn. Prices will still fall to compete with DVD backers though. I would stay away from buying more red movies though.

I was a HD-DVD supporter. I wasn't opposed to going purple however I was waiting for a combo player that was affordable.
I know everyone is saying "get a PS3". It's not that I have anything against Sony, and I do own an Xbox 360, but that PS3 is just a really ugly CE. AFAIK you can't stack anything on top due to the curve, it looks plasticky, and would be an eyesore in my otherwise neat HT rack. -

Panny BD30 and the PS3 are the best of the BD players right now. Both are 1.1 compliant but the PS3 can be upgraded to 2.0. The latter can bitstream DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD to a 1.3x AV reciever.
Also, if you're not willing to spend the beans for a good quality format winner then that tells me you're not really an early adopter and should wait until prices drop and more features are added.Enjoying life in HD!

LMFAO at the OP who is going to avoid the BEST HDM player in the world, the PS3, but he is an xbot fanboy who can't admit the obvious: what a sick piece of machinery the PS3 really is......Further, he couldn't be more wrong about the games, living instead in early 2007 when the lineup was slim....Oh well, his loss.
