Default Amazon Sold Enough Blu-ray/HD DVD Hardware To Cover 7 Football Fields

Not smackdown but applies to both formats.

HD DVD and Blu-ray hardware also were singled out for their strength, as the site said it sold enough high-def players to cover seven football fields.
Had no idea Amazon could sell that many players.

I heard that report about the Wii today on the news and could not believe the demand. I don't get it, I thought video games were the way to enjoy sports without moving anything but your thumbs. I think of the older Nintendo pad and doing the track and field. I guess the Wii is king.

The Wii is king. I don't get it, I have no idea why it's so popular since I think the games by and large suck, but hell, who am I. That thing is a popularity monster regardless what I think.

As for the football fields...doesn't seem that complicated a math problem, if you have some dimensions to work with.

Football field: 50x100 yards = 5000 sqyd
HDM box est: 2x2 feet = 4 ftsq = 4/9 sqyd
1 football field = 5000*9/4 = 11250 players
7 fields = 78750 players
(I did this math without a calculator)

ok, assuming football field = 300 ft x 160 ft (no end zones) = 48000 square ft.

My A3 box is 20" x 17" rounded, assuming that's typical. = 340 / 144 = 2.36 square ft.

48000/2.36 * 7 = about 142373 players.

I actually measured a box, so I'll cop to that.

Don't forget, BR players are larger and heavier than HD DVD players.
A little food for thought.

One has to wonder if he's including the PS3 or HD-DVD add-on in this statistic.

You know, I don't really see what relevance that has to the topic at hand. I'm going to guess you don't either, but just wanted to get your BD slam in when you can.

So we get

142,372 HDM players if you use 17 x 20 (boxed) inches, no end zones x 7 football fields.

170,840 HDM players if you use 17 x 20 (boxed) inches, end zones x 7 football fields

218,932 HDM players if you use 13 x 17 inches, no end zones x 7 football fields

221,935 HDM players if you use 12.9 x 16.9 inches, no end zones x 7 football fields

probably not enough units if PS3s are added to the claim, and since xbox 360 add ons are smaller, they probably were not considered in the calculation.

Its probably just HD DVD and Blu-ray set top boxes ( ie no PS3 or Xbox 360 add on)

Amazon posts best season ever - Other retailers - not so good

other calculations in the thread above.
