Good grief, Sony.
![]() From VB article: “I think finally everything that we knew going into this format has started to happen,” said Sony Pictures Home Entertainment worldwide president David Bishop. “We have a critical mass of content, we have the biggest mass of consumer electronics companies in the world supporting this format. That has moved Blu-ray into the forefront.” Sony is so confident that Bishop said the studio plans to begin marketing the format to consumers as the winner of the format war. “The message that we’re going to put out to the consumer now is, now it is safe to make a choice,” he said. “No more fence-sitting is needed.” http://www.videobusiness.com/index.a...leid=CA6415444

The PS3 doesn't include gift certificates, it has rebate forms for $10 off the purchase of a Blu-ray movies. That's not what that second article was talking about--it was talking about people that bought and gave gift cards as christmas gifts that may have been used to buy movies and accounts for the spike in sales. That doesn't favor Blu-ray over HD DVD it simply accounts for the overall increase in sales for both formats after the holiday shopping season.

I deleted the second article because VB article didn't include any direct reference to the Videoscan data (of which the PCmag article was about)
I know nothing of any certificates included in the PS3, but if there were, it would make sense that they would be used after Xmas, but who knows?

I love the stats they use!!!
"Also, the top titles on Blu-ray outsold those on HD DVD during the first three weeks of January. Lionsgate’s Crank sold 7,500 units on Blu-ray, compared to HD DVD’s top seller for the period, Batman Begins, which sold through 4,100 units, according to studio sources." So Crank sold more in the first three weeks in Janurary. Hmmm I wonder why? Batman Begins Released October 10, 2006 Crank Released January 9, 2007 Possibly because thousands of people who have HD DVD already bought Batman Begins since it had been on HD DVD for about 3 months!!! Possibly because Crank was a brand new release!!! WHO KNOWS!!!! "Warner’s Feb. 13 release The Departed, is the top-selling high-definition movie on both formats for the past 30 days (on pre-orders), with the Blu-ray version ranking as the 36th top-selling product and the HD DVD version the 45th as of Feb. 8." It is Feb. 9 and now the HD DVD version is at #28, with the Blu-Ray version at #33. With HD DVD and Blu-Ray been switching between leader and trailer. Wow!!! If I can rip apart this article so quickly and easily then an actual industry analyst would tear it to shreds, hopefully in the most humiliating and degrading way possible. That article is pathetic.

Here's a link to the Blu-ray rebate.
blu-raymovierebate.com/ps_movies.html The only title I have that qualifies is Goodfellas. |

With that I agree fullheartedly. Sony's approach is all about spin, not substance. And some people wonder why the HD DVD group gets more respect.

Well, Videobusiness is pretty BD-biased, that's no secret. I think we all knew what Sony's marketing strategy would be, ever since CES.
But really, the more they spin, the more they worry. Sony has EVERYTHING to lose here, nobody else does, so it's not suprising the extremes they will go to.

Please note it states Sony prepares to declaring win and not that it did. This doesn't mean it will come in next week - it could come 3 or 6 months from now.

That's correct, hstewarth. Let's hope that, IF they declare it, they it will be because it is true. I think Sony is on the spin train, but I would love to be wrong on this.

They change the titles every few weeks (if not faster).

PS3Fanboy.com (12-23-2008, 9:45AM): iSuppli, the company which broke down the PS3 at launch ... now, they say the PS3 costs 53% less to make -- at around $445 |

This is one of the reasons I don't want to give any more of my money to SONY anymore. All this B.S. they tell us (and they have become very arrogant IMO) have lowered my opinion of SONY. Ever sense the said that "The HD era starts when we say it does" and "We could put a rock in a box and slap the SONY label on the side and people will buy it" comments really put me off the PS3 way back at one of the E3's or some other trade show.
It's like those "I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC" ads you see on t.v. They don't make me want to buy a Mac or anything else they are putting out into the market. Anybody else feel this way?
