Default Black Friday Week: Blu-Ray 72.6% HD DVD 27.4%

The sales data that usually come out on Friday is here.

Quote:
The high-definition format war tilted even more heavily in favor of Blu-ray Disc despite a rash of inexpensive HD DVD players sold through Wal-Mart and other discount retailers in recent weeks. Nielsen VideoScan data for the week shows 72.6% of high-definition discs purchased by consumers were Blu-ray and just 27.4% were HD DVD.

Big title, big sales. This truly isn't a dig, but it definitely the type of title that would be played on a PS3.

If Sony can sustain the types of numbers we've seen of late through the holiday.. and get those people to start using that PS3 as a movie player, it could be a rough road ahead for the Reds...

Watching this battle is like watching a damn good boxing match... BD is up and its round 5...

If that is true I would cry if I were an hd-dvd supporter.
All of those free movies being given away at Amazon.
Hell the free movies from Walmart with the PS3 do not even count in the numbers.
I will wait for official word but damn.

Yep.

Are we starting to finally see the PS3/BD strategy starting to work?

That is astonishing. So much for those Amazon numbers the HD DVD fanboys were drooling over.

We have to be honest here. Those $99 players did nothing to help HD-DVD's software sales. I really doubt at this point the that things are going to change after Christmas, considering all the PS3s being sold since the price drop.

And still the small total number of HDM sales in the big picture mean nothing right now. The future of HDM is in stand alone sales. Big studios know this. If these numbers are accurate gratz to the Blu side for what it's worth.

Imagine if there was no BOGO sale for HD DVD for the week? We would talking about 80/20 or more figure.

Yeah, you should those "superior" standalone sales mean something in the future because they certainly don't seem to be making any difference now.

At all.

For the past 18 months.

Where are all the Amazon and DVD Empire watchers now?!? I predicted it was going to be a heartbreak for them. You can't determine anything from Amazon or DVD Empire. Is this proof positive or what?!?
