Given that most of the new PS3 deals includes FREE movies that they can pick right away, I would think MORE units will be used for movies then before.
    I am officially BLU.

I've already pointed out how misleading the thread title is and I'm a HD DVD exclusive person, yet I haven't seen any Blu-ray people dispute kamiller's ridiculous threads in this section. "$300 PS3" when you have to freakin' sign up for a damn credit card to get the discount.
I agree with you 100 percent. When I open a bargain thread and it turns out the deal does not fit what was written in the title, I think to myself, what a waste of time and this applies to blu or red deals.

The fine print on that PS3 credit card "deal" is questionable. After you get approved for another credit card, you eventually get a $100 credit to your statement (good for the Sony store only?), but nowhere does it say it applies to your existing balance. I've had a similar bonus on one of my cards, and it only applied to new purchases. Whatever. It's rediculous to try and spin this smoke and mirrors deal as a $299 PS3.

I also agree the thread title is misleading, but the OP at least clarifies it in the first post. You can not change the title after a certain amount of time, so maybe by the OP missed his chance to update the title.

I can confirm that it applies to your existing balance since I got it for my 60g PS3 a couple of months ago.

Yeah definitely annoying. If it's not a straight up deal, then it should be noted in the title of the thread.

In the case of the Sony Style credit card, it does apply to your existing balance. I bought my 60GB PS3 for $350 (they offered $150 back at the time on the CC offer) and my second statement showed them taking $150 off the balance. The Sony Card is actually a good card. It is offered from Chase and there is no interest for 12 months on all purchases and no annual fee. You also get points on each purchase that can be used to buy any product on the Sony Style site.

Chase offers a similar deal with the Chase Freedom World MasterCard, and has a better long-term APR thereafter and the points you earn can be redeemed for anything including airline tickets. The problem with these promo cards, is that you can't ever use them after the initial qualifying purchase or you are stuck paying the high 14% + APR.

Or maybe they'll just auction off the movies and buy some games If I were buying a game machine that included a lot of movies, I'd probably do that, seeing as how I want it to play games.

I pay my card off every week. I never carry a balance. Me and my wife have two credit cards. She uses a card that offers cash back, and I use the Sony card and pay them both off every week. So far, we have gotten back over $2K from the money back card over the past 2 years or so and have not paid a dime in interest or a dime in annual fees.

I don't know anyone, myself included, that would open a new credit card just to buy a game console, or anything else, to save $100. I've got several cards in my drawer and whatever deal they start with can change. No annual fee? That's been changed, now you must pay. Low interest? This year it goes up. The more cards you have, the harder it is to keep track of the changes.

Um, excuse me, but this is the A3 at $99 thread. Has nothing to do with Sony and credit cards.

Why would you pay it off every week and not every month? You still wouldn't be paying interest on anything and you could keep your money a little longer.

General comments: People usually engage in this practice due to low credit lines to help free up any available credit for new purchases. This is why a charge card is best for the pay in full people. However it could also be they want to pay it weekly, so it doesn't build up or just a matter of preference.

It is a habit Call me crazy, but I sit down once a week to pay bills (almost 100% online) and take the 2 minutes to pay off both cards. I also review all account activity and have caught numerous discrepancies over the years where some stores or restaurants over charged me. It would be much more difficult to catch these discrepancies on a monthly basis.
