Default New Estimate: Only 89,871 Units of Transformers Sold

Transformers didn't even sell 115,000 units last week. Try 89,871 units, if the report is to be believed.

Quote:
Transformers HD-DVD
Week Ending 10/21/07 = 89,871 Units (First Week sales as reported in VideoScan First Alert)
---
300 HD-DVD/DVD Combo Pack
Week Ending 8/5/07 = 56,191 Units (First Week sales as reported in VideoScan First Alert)
---
300 Blu-ray
Week Ending 8/5/07 = 107,351 Units (First Week sales as reported in VideoScan First Alert)

I saw that too. Paramount was maybe bought by Toshita to royally screw things up for Hd-dvd's credibility, by pissing off Bd fans, then confusing data on the grounds that they are a public company & aren't therefore allowed to provide misinformation.

On a more serious note, I'm guessing we won't find the truth of this until early next week by the soonest.

...Or maybe Paramount is a covert studio, secretly working for the BDA to destroy Hd dvd from within... I'm sure there are two crabs involved too.

Lets do some quick calculations based on box office performances to see if the number 89,871 is plausible. We all agree 300 and Transformers fall in the same genre. Granted 300 is rated R/combo disc and Transformers is PG-13. However, the growth of HD DVD probably cancel these factors out.

300 = $211 mil, 56,191 units of HD DVD sold in first week
Transformers = $318 mil, x

211/318 = 56,191/x, x = 84,686 units <--my estimate

First Alert number = 89,891 units

Yeah ...the first alert number is plausible ...much more so than 190,000.

After whats happened, Im leaning toward that idea, or maybe Para is just an oppurtunest and will find a way to go Blu/Neutral again the moment they find a loophole in their contract

I guess Iphones, any music with the f word in them, and hybrid cars, make that cars in general aren't mainstream then because Walmart doesn't carry them, hence they COULDN'T POSSIBLY be mainstream

Eh, that's not my impression at all... Loads of Xbox with add-ons, no? But you may be right about the demographic it's for.... According to one theatre review I read: 28 year old males. Clucking BELL!!! I*M 28??!!??!?!!! Call me Tumbleweed the Volkswagon Beetle ('64 model)

Maybe... They may just start by saying they've committed a huge injustice against Steven Speilberg (Mirror-rock in the original Greek) & all the Benevolent, Gracious, Kind, Merciful, Forgiving members of the BDA & it's supporters therefore must only release Speilberg titles on Blu-ray exclusively for the next 15 months.

But a top Par exec just told me this by way of explanation for the discrepancies: "What they're saying to you is factually correct that the top 3 accounts sold 74,000 units. No disputing that. The mistake they're making is they're underestimating the units sold by nontraditional retailers like Amazon.com, Netflix, and Blockbuster Online."
Is this Paramount executive including sales to online movie rental providers such as Blockbuster Online and Netlix? I thought movies purchased intended for rentals weren't included in the sales numbers. Am I mistaken?

You guys put too much thought into this crap. Fact is HD DVD was supposed to be dead 15 times over the past year, but its still here. Its not going away. Either shut up or go neutral. If you can afford a hd player, you can afford 2 hd players. I swear you guys cry like a bunch of school girls. If you put half the effort into curing AIDS that you put into discrediting hd dvd, the fucking virus would of been destroyed 3 years ago.

OK - Since you place so much importance on this source of information, then I must assume you're prepared to admit your previous "estimates" for BD / HD 300 sales were off by over 50%.

So far, all you're proving is that Paramount has a better track record than you.

Ummm sorry to disappoint you, but those were not my numbers. Back then, I was citing a different source than First Scan Alert. Thanks though for thinking that I am all powerful and have my own retail survey firm. I contributed my source both times did I not?
