Default Blu-ray edges HD DVD AGAIN, Transformers not enough

Quote:
Transformers exclusively on the HD DVD format didn’t tip the scale last week. Though there was no hot new Blu-ray Disc release, consumers continued to buy more Blu-ray Discs than HD DVDs for the week ended Oct. 21, albeit by a slim 51% to 49% edge. Paramount says Transformers sold 190,000 units its first week in stores, but Home Media Magazine market research and studio estimates puts the actual number of units that sold through to consumers closer to 115,000.
Oh my ...HD DVD didn't win the week! This is according to homemediamagazine.

Damn, the BOGO sales actually were enough.

Is this from Nielsen numbers or HomeMediaMagazine internal research?

I figured this week would be a toss up with the BD sale. Looks like HD DVD might not win a week this year afterall.

Default BluRay outsells HD-DVD for Transformers Week!

Not sure if this has been posted, but this is HUGE news! Obviously it was close, but it should be considered a HUGE victory for Blu!

Just curious. Why would it be a HUGE victory when it went from 2:1 ratio to 1:1 ratio?

115,000? Wow that's ONLY 75,000 less than Paramount was trumping. That was HD DVD's one and only chance to win. Oh well, i guess they can try again in 2009 when Transformers 2 comes out

HomeMediaMagazine is the same place that publishes the Nielsen numbers every Friday. So yes, this is as official as it gets.

I know that !

I'm just curious if they are reporting this based off of the actual Nielsen numbers (they probably get them early to prepare for tomorrows edition) or if it was based on their own internal research.

wow........... smaller hardware install base, but sold about the same amount of discs with a higher profit margin during the same week, how would that be considered a loss by any standard?

This is a good PR point for Blu-Ray, the BOGO did the trick. That said it's interesting that the BDA feels so insecure they felt the need to do the BOGO on the Transformer week just for bragging rights as you are doing now. In the mean time HD DVD keeps chugging along towards the holidays with their big WalMart stick under the arm.

Because it's HD DVDs biggest exclusive movie of the year vs a week with nothing big scheduled for release on Blu-ray.

Obviously we all thought this would be HD DVDs week to win, which it obviously would have without the last minute (atleast to us) Blu-ray buy one get one free sale.
