My bad. Blu-ray does have a better horror selection I must admit. My wife is a horror buff, and she's not very picky in that genre either.

It's real sad that think this is a real war and you're a blu soldier marching around attacking anything you perceive that could possibly be negative to blu-ray.

I think the point of this list is if you're a huge movie fan. Love movies across multiple genres. This list can definitely help. Personally there is no debate that if you're #1 genre is sci-fi HD DVD is the way to go. If it's horror blu-ray is the way to go. And if you don't want to miss great exclusives on both sides going purple is the only option.

Just because you're stuck with 1 format and a die hard blind fanboy doesn't mean other people aren't more open minded and care more about the MOVIES than the FORMAT.

You didn't know you were going to catch hell for this thread? Any post with a minute evidence of bias is open season for attack from both sides

Heck I did'nt notice FEAST on the lists, IMHO one of the "funnest" horror films out in quite a while-evokes the enjoyment of Re-Animator and Return of the Living Dead(minus zombies-'natch), I enjoyed it more than SLITHER(in itself a GREAT film).

On the BR side(ignoring some PQ issues from AB's releases) HELLBOY is a great flick and great PQ. I must say if horror/sci-fi is your bag format neutral is the only way to go.

Hellboy did have fantastic pq. Hard to classify it horror or sci-fi. I thought The Feast was horrible though. But i could add it instead of slither.

Yeah i'd agree format nuetral is definitly the only option for big sci-fi / horror fans.

5th elemet renaster was the first one to really push be over to buyign a ps3. And with starz putting out the all time best horror movies ever makes it alot easier keeping the ps3 despite 0 games.

Actually SLITHER is a great hor/com just FEAST had more "teeth". Frighteners is great, as is HEROES-if you like it.

Same for Blu-if you like the SAW films then there's a strong sale point for BR.

I figure to classify something(I'd put The THING in horror every time) it depends upon the fim's strongest associations/intentions. Hellboy is more action with a very strong leaning towards the supernatural/occult-the realm of "horror".

I always saw it as a sci-fi. Right from the start you're in outer-space looking at an alien ship. I also put Aliens quadology under sci-fi even though it can scare you.

I don't know, I think The Thing is primarily a horror movie while Aliens is primarily Sci-Fi. Would be great to see Aliens in HD...oh wait, that would mean Blu-ray...

I think that, despite what comes off as lackluster execution, the idea behind this thread is quite sound. The OP has a good idea, as genre interest is one of the things that could be quite helpful for all of those guys who come on here and ask about what system to purchase. The problem was his focus on titles that he owned and/or was familiar with. If anyone is genuinely interested in comparing these things, it might just be easiest to go to the respective "home pages" for BD and HD on Amazon and click on the genres listed on their side links...

BD has a lot more than 4, but the majority of the rest are all Japanese.

I would be love to see sales stats on the porn discs, I bet they are miniscule.

I'm fairly sure that he was talking about US releases, and that's 17hd 4br. Given that I don't think there's any way someone is going to import HD porn. And Japanese porn is pretty annoying IMO.

I'm kind of a fan of the superhero flicks:

BD
-Hellboy (theatrical)
-Spidey 1-3
-Fantastic 4 (1&2, albeit 1 is only theatrical..)
-X3
-Punisher (again, only theatrical)
[2 upcoming in '08, "Wolverine" and "Punisher 2"]
HD DVD
-Hulk
-Batman Begins
-Constantine (if you wanta consider it one)
-V for Vendetta
[3 Upcoming in '08, "Incredible Hulk", "Iron Man", "Hellboy 2"]

So by the end of next year it looks like 7 vs. 10
