I'm dissapointed with Robocop's transfer, but firmly lay the blame at Fox for that. That said if Warner can put out such fantastic looking films from decades ago, I don't see why the hell 28 Weeks Later should have a "mere" 3* picture rating, wasn't it BD fans that said 4.5stars minimum for 2007 releases?
Bad bad Fox! -

28 Days Laters budget was $8m and I would say Week was probably under $20m (boxofficemojo doesnt give the budget for Weeks) Days was shot with HD cameras cut the crush that is added to the print to give it that sort of gritty feel removes the 3D effect the same as it did with certain scenes in 300.
Again its not Blu Rays fault if the title looks no better than SD as thats how its meant to look. I wont be upgrading because it looks no better that the SD version but Fox had to release it eventually and now with the sequel being released is the right time. -

Weeks later was apparently £30-40m which is ($60-80m) though it could have been $30-40m so considerably higher than Days. I'm not saying it is Blu Rays fault, I know it's not. But I still don't see any point to the 28 Days later re-release, well, other than to get Fox's title count up.
I'd like to think by now that everyone on this forum knows that both formats are capable of incredible picture and audio quality. As for 300, I actually think it's one of the best looking movies I've seen in HD I thought these formats were about making things as close to their original representation as possible, rather than removing things artificially though. -

it was shot with a Canon XL-S1 which has 600 lines of 4:3 resolution
it was not shot in HD
i will still pick it up though for the improvement in audio, which is something i always did with dvd too (upgraded Snatch to the Superbit for instance to get DTS several years ago, same for legends of the fall) -

HDD complains about grain in Robocop, mainly the night scenes. I'd love to read their Bourne Ultimatum review, that movie had some SERIOUS grain.
HDD should just have a score category for encoding, to appease BD/HDD fans

Halloween is the best of the bunch so the fact that it gets the lowest score is pretty puzzling.
28 Days later was shot on a 600p camera that was cropped down to around 480p, so it's frankly IMPOSSIBLE to look any better than it does.
I agree that Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead don't look that great, but there is some extra detail and the image feels very solid.
Evil Dead II, although retaining some extra detail from previous DVD releases, has a very annoying cloud of digital noise throughout.
So I agree that Anchor Bay has a lot of room to grow as a Blu-ray content creator but Halloween proves that they can do it. -

I think you guys would get a lot out of my Tier System thread. It's the original thread that eNoise redid from scratch here. Of course in my opinion mine is far more accurate.

But come and take a look for yourself. This is the thread that debuted on avsforum and became really massive over there. In fact it became SO big that once it started getting out of hand and I deleted it...I was banned from AVS because it created so much traffic for them.
For those that haven't seen one before (many have duplicated the concept), the purpose of my tier thread is to compare the picture quality to every other Blu-ray out there. It makes it much easier to get a sense of what the transfer looks like.
Anyway, come give it a look see:

I think it's ridiculous that Bracke's word is taken as gospel among HDM early adopters. He certainly has the credentials to make educated opinions, but I've read great reviews for all of those discs in other places. Does a movie suck because Ebert gives it a bad review just because he's the most popular critic?
Resistance is futile. -
