Default Report: Netflix Users Favor HD DVD

Just posted:

Quote:
A new report indicates that although only a tiny percentage of Netflix users are high-def early adopters, among them HD DVD appears to be favored over Blu-ray by a factor of more than two-to-one.

This makes sense to me, as I only rent HD-DVDs. I am format neutral and tend to buy Blu-Ray and rent HD-DVDs to check out some of the catalog Universal titles.

I am not surprised. After the Blockbuster announcement I imagine quite a few Blu-Ray owners dropped Netflix and quite a few HD DVD owners dropped Blockbuster.

That's a VERY misleading title, it's just based on PAGE VIEWS! We all know that doesn't mean much these days, that's why a web-business will not look at page views but click-through rates that actually end up with a sale.
I bet most people viewed the HD DVD pages thinking it would work on their DVD player as well, but then read that you need a special player to play them and went on to renting regular DVD's, as evidenced by equal rental rates for both formats as announced by their CEO.

This is the only reason for this. Where else are you going to rent HD DVD?

This report can also be interpreted to explain why Blu-ray is viewed as more likely to survive by its owners while HD DVD owners have questions regarding their format's future and are more likely to commit themselves to renting movies for it rather than owning them outright.

Zip.ca or RogersDirect.ca!

Rogers is faster with fulfillment, but I think they licensed the zip tech.

The Numbers: 900+ DVDs (rapidly declining), 34 HD-DVDs (+1 on order, + 5 free), 17 BDs (+2 on order). Last movie: Close Encounters.

How do you explain Blockbuster then? Was that a Sony paid deal or based on higher demand for BD? If higher demand, then I guess you could conclude your very statement for BD users.

I definitely am one of those HD-DVD renter people persons on that list... It sucks that netflix and blockbuster.com are the only places to rent HD-DVD's... I chose netflix because the front-end design is a lot easier than how blockbuster is set-up... I DO get "throttled" at the end of the month a lot though lol... thats my only complaint...

I'm siked to hear HD-DVD is doing so well on the Netflix front, but i have to say, if i had blu-ray player, i would rent them as well since the war is still at a peak... I would PREFER the HD-DVD because of the U-Control and the bad-ass menu system...

Wow.. I did not even read the article before I commented and you are right. This is a pretty misleading title and may carry over to the actual rental numbers.

About the only good news for HDDVD right now, more people have a preference of viewing HDDVD pages, wonder if Toshiba gets paid for every page viewed, then the format war is over!!! Toshiba Wins!!!

LOL!
