Thumbs up Home Theater Group Backs Blu-ray

Home Theater Group Backs Blu-ray

Organization says installers are favoring the high-def format.

Quote:
Washington, D.C. (September 24, 2007) -- Home Theater Specialists of America is endorsing Blu-ray over HD DVD in the high-def disc format war.

That's according to an article by TWICE Magazine.

The HTSA, which represents Home Theater installers and high-end CE stores, says a survey of its members found that 92 percent of their high-def player sales have been Blu-ray players.

The remaining eight percent were HD DVD players or combo units that playback both formats.

TWICE reports that the HTSA believes its endorsement of Blu-ray will "strengthen retailer commitment to providing more (Blu-ray)-based devices to meet growing consumer demand.”
“The industry looks to HTSA as an expert for custom Home Theater, built upon a foundation of the top consumer electronic retailers across the country,” said HTSA executive director Richard Glikes, according to TWICE. “Based on our member research and observations in the field, it is clear that HTSA customers have made Blu-ray Disc their preferred HD format for movies and other packaged video content.”

Glikes said the group's members say Blu-ray offers more disc capacity and better resolution than HD DVD.
Another week, and yet another backer of Blu-ray.

That's really surprising. I would have thought people with that much disposible income would at least go with a dual-format player.

At the moment the dual format players are not, in terms of specs etc, on level playing field with either BD or HD players.

If they're not selling their customers PS3s, they're pissing on their customers.

...oh maybe they expect to sell them a new player in 5 months, then another final one in 10 months.

I have an HD-A20 and a PS3 but leaned red because the extras did count. Bye Bye HD, you gave it your best, that's all we could ask. Sony, finish your damn product already!

The Numbers: 900+ DVDs (rapidly declining), 34 HD-DVDs (+1 on order, + 5 free), 17 BDs (+2 on order). Last movie: Close Encounters.

Another week, and yet another backer of Blu-ray.
1. They're an intermediary who sells what consumers ask for.
2. This isn't really any better than "My local store..." as it encompasses a small potion of the market.
3. The people are misinformed as by their obvious statement that Blu-ray offers "better resolution than HD DVD".

Sub note: Until recently, the only dual format player was the broken LG 1st gen. Maybe in the future, more will be dual format.

I cannot believe there are people out there still hoping that HD-DVD comes through, and that a dual format player is the way to go!

If everyone went with Blu-ray we would just get this war.

I keep looking for the completed BD players...

MIA, bud.

MIA.

I'm stuck with a PS3 that *will* be sold.

Lemme rephrase this for you:

I cannot believe there are people out there still hoping that Blu-ray comes through, and that a dual format player is the way to go!

If everyone went with HD DVD we would just get this war over with.

Is that better? hehehehehehe

If you want a static, stuck in time format, go HD DVD. If you want a format that's great now and with plans for the future in mind, go Blu.

Here we go with the claims of "completed" and "unfinished" again.

Now that's the right attitude! ( for those who can't tell I'm joking.)

It plays movies now, and in theory will be the equal of HD DVD in 10 months ... if it works.

Every high end home theater store I've walked in has seemingly always favored Blu-ray. Usually touting the technical superiority of the format.

OTOH, I suspect a possible motivating factor is they get higher profits on expensive Blu-ray players than lowly Toshibas.
