Default Disney Chief Rips Blu-Ray Defectors!

Well here's another bit of news that came from an investment meeting.
Doesn't sound like Iger is too happy about the defection.

Interesting contrast:
Quote:
According to Variety, Dauman refused to comment on reports that Toshiba paid Paramount $100 million to switch to HD DVD.

But Iger seemed certain that the report was true.

"We haven't taken any money (to choose Blu-ray) because we think it's far and away the best business," Iger said, according to Variety.
No studio in their right mind is choosing HD DVD over blu-ray if they are not getting checks from Toshiba. Hopefully this will shut down the wishful thinking of HD DVD fanboys who think Disney would go neutral...

News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch, whose Fox studio also exclusively backs Blu-ray, told the conference that his favored format offers the best picture.

"The public can tell the difference," Murdoch said, according to the AP.
Riiiiiight. That's flat-out bull.

Well honestly, what did you expect him to say "Oh well, it's their decision. We will have to see if they made the right choice choosing to support HD DVD, we love HD DVD but support Blu-ray". Of course they are going to go against everything HD DVD is, because that is where they stand.

His quote was very beautiful. The hundreds of HD DVD fanboys just went silent. "But I swear Disney is being paid off!" Yea kid. Hang it up. That was a cut and dry answer.

I love it so much; let me see it again.

(I had to see it one more time, too.)

But...but...but..
. Disney's just itchin' to go neutral, aren't they? --I mean, that's what about a few hundred wishful HD-DVD-supporter posts have said for the last month or two (if not longer).

I think the heads of these studios are probably getting as frustrated as some of us here on the forums. Reality is reality; fantasy is fantasy. As time marches on, and the deck stacks more firmly behind Blu, I think these Execs themselves are starting to become more direct/forthright in their support, and less tolerant of BS propaganda from the opposing side.

At least Blu-ray doesn't have to BUY all of it's support.

Guess BETTER storage and BETTER bitrates matter....

So, anyone else notice from the front page of the board, the thread title was cut off and said, "Disney Chief Rips Blu-ray..." heh.

That probably got a lot of attention but when they enter the thread they learn the truth about Disney's support of Blu-ray.

I cut this out right away, then read the posts that use the same quote. Might as well add it one more time since it is pretty clear about Disney's stance on the war.

So much for Disney moving to neutral anytime soon.

Agreed.

So long as the sales ratio is firmly in Blu-Ray's favor and Pirates is set to sell at least 150k opening week, they'll stick with Blu.

I'm sure the execs at Universal and Paramount are truley concerned about his emotional state over the matter.

Here's Iger's point, and I see it consistently being over-looked in the format war: "we think it's far and away the best business".

Toshiba, on the other hand, is taking high definition on a price race to zero. I almost believe they want a zero sum game in HDM. If it weren't for the alleged $150M, I would say for certain they have no real long term intention of winning this thing. I think at some level, Toshiba still knows they don't have it (at least on their terms), so they want make sure nobody else gets it, and proceed to make them bleed for as long as they can flog their cheap stuff.
