No surprise, if there going to promote the hardware, might as well give the software an extension.

Its not big news, its old as well. Only 4% of Target's sales comes from DVD. Compared to 40% at Wal-Mart or BestBuy.

Thats what happens when you buy end caps at retail stores. They add more of your stuff.

When asked why Paramount shifted support from Blu-Ray to HD DVD this is what Paramount said in this article:

"Regarding Paramount’s decision to back HD DVD only after about a year of producing in both formats, Bell explained that supporting both was becoming too expensive."

Now I ask you. How does that not apply to retailers? Blu-Ray has been outselling HD DVD all year long. I suspect that Target will not be the only major retailer to start focusing on pushing Blu-Ray media over HD DVD.

An end-cap was mentioned, and people began to theorize about it. This is an actual article that talks more about it. The last time this was mentioned, someone took a cameraphone pic of the displays and posted them here.

I think this is good news.

Dont assume what your saying. Your making the same mistake with other BR fans ''UNIVERSAL WILL GO NEUTRAL''. If Sony buys end caps at Wal-Mart and K-Mart, then yes they will push BR.

I find it ironic that when Sony buys end caps or does deals like this with Target, its called a ''buisness incentive'' when Microsoft does it, its ''ILLEGAL''

I wasn't sure if this was the best thread to make this point in, but it applies to Target as well as any other retailer:

Having the more expensive standalone isn't all bad news from a marketing standpoint. A store, and especially employees who may receive sales bonuses and/or commissions, is going to focus their sales efforts on "upgrading" a customer to the more expensive models and they will specifically point out any advantages it carries. A salesperson isn't going to go out of his or her way to point out any potential advantages of the cheaper device.

It has been discussed anecdotally I guess, but still having an article in videobusiness is significant imo.
I had not seen the previous thread, but I still think this is confirmation of the trend discussed there.

Do you understand how retailng work? Yes Sony purchased endcap space at Target, just like they do at Best Buy, Circuit City, and other stores. Toshiba does the same thing. It is not illegal. It would be one thing if they simply threw some extra shelves in with the endcaps to sell movies, it is another when they are adding to the shelf space in the Blu-Ray section. At my local Target they doubled the Blu-Ray section by taking away half the HD DVD section.

And you did not address my point that HDM sales are lower for both sides than expected. At some point retailers may pull the plug on one format over the other.
