Bad news for Blu-ray? That's a change after the last three days.

Are we to assume after this announcement that if you purchase a Blu-ray player you are not a pervert.

Queston? Is this 1979? What about that thing called "the Internet."

I still think that Blu-ray should get porn. The porn indstustry still WANTs to put their products on Blu-ray. It's not like it has a "tape lengh or high fee problem" like back in 1979. But the dynamics of the industry is not the same as it was in 1979 where "discretion" was provided by VCRs. That same thing can be achieved with a PC and an internet connection.

The question to be asked now is does Sony have a moral clause in their licensing of Blu-ray production which prevents pornographic material from being created.

Yeah, I agree too. I mean, damn. It's just a piece of plastic. It's not like it's some holy grail or religious parchment paper.

I wonder if the movie industry wants to separate mainstream movies to blu-ray and porn to hd dvd (sans Universal Pictures)? If they pull it off it will be a big deal. Who knows? But if things get hairy the BDA (not Sony) could probably open the door for porn studios later.

I'd want more clarification on these articles though.

Beta was a magnetic tape in a plastic case, but Sony decreed that no porn shall touch it.

More relevant for me though is, if BR wins the current war is this what we can look forward to in a BR future? Sony dictating what we can and cant watch? Whats to stop them from doing the same to some hurt their competitors, say game discs on the next Xbox or Nintendo console? This is exactly why I would not want Sony in control of a format, they will use it the way they see fit and the consumer be damned.

I think I was agreeing that Sony has a pious attitude. Hence, "...it's just a damn piece of plastic..."

By the way, I believe that porn was on Beta at first. It just that the restrictive royalties and short tape length wasn't suitable at the time. And that was the catalyst that made them choose vhs.

Yeah, two things that I watch is DRM (HDCP) and openness for other product makers. For example, will Sony "let" Microsoft make a Blu-ray Add-on if they wanted to. I say, yes. Because Sony is more interested in selling their content than preventing the 360 -- by hurting it's features -- from playing blu-ray movies.

But guess what? Microsoft has a worse problem! Making Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, and even Toshiba angry by trying to make VCR/DVD/Blu-ray (or hd dvd) obsolete and pushing for digital downloads.

Microsoft doesn't really care about hd dvd. They are just using Toshiba as pawns to stick it to Sony. But they are sticking it to not just Sony but also, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung...etc...

I'm having a beta flashback after this announcement. Oh well I'll be at AVN 2007 looking for HD-DVD porn.

Who else will be there?

Farking Bastage nice pictures!

Honestly, I don't really care, it's not something I can watch with my wife anyways. Aside from that, if I want to watch porn, I can still watch it on my PC which has better PQ anyways. Not a huge deal to me really, though as a general industry issue, it's pretty big.

Somebody please show me figures (not your opinions) that shows the following:
  • There is a high demand for porn in HD
  • There is a significant percentage of porn being filmed in HD or high-quality film.
  • There is proof that the internet/VOD porn market is being destroyed by the home video market
