Default Sony Claims BD Standalones Now Outselling HD DVD

Here's the link:

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...ing_HD_DVD/936

I especially love the absolute LACK of any numbers to support this claim. While it may be true, it certainly lacks any credibility.

The lack of evidence is very funny.

If Amazon.com is any indication, this statement is not true. I check daily and there are always a least 2 and sometimes 3 HD-DVD players outselling the top Blu-ray player. The A2 is always in the top 3 DVD players.

Default Blu-ray stand-alones outselling HD

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...ing_HD_DVD/936

The extension of this is of course is that the cheaper hw argument is moot.

What's left for HD DVD?

Oh yeah.... DD+ on the biggest title they will have for the next year or so.

LOL

LMAO, LMAO!!!!!!!!!

It's bullshit. Come on use common friggin sense. Look at the statistics on Amazon (the A2 is the #1 selling electronic device, and has been for quite some time). Look at your local stores. Blu Ray stand alones are harder to sell than Enron stock.

Sony saying Blu ray stand alones are outselling HD DVD is like them saying the PS3 is outselling the Wii and 360 combined.

It's not true, it's complete and utter spin.

And you were taken hook, line and sinker.

I'm shocked that High def digest would even put this junk on their site.

I suspect this Sony "report" is likely based off a very slim slice of time, likely when HD DVD was getting some bad press and their $499 player was in its early release phase meeting some pent up demand for a "lower" cost BD player.

Remember the Sony "report" on movie sales that conspicuously covered the exact time frame where HD DVD had almost no release for a quarter, but included the release of Night at the Museum and Casino Royale on BD? That "report" mysteriously cut off a week or two before Children of Men and other popular movies starting hitting again.

Its just Sony's way, what to do?

If BD stand alone players are outselling HD DVD players RIGHT NOW - after the Paramount/Dreamworks news - then I'll destroy my PS3 on YouTube
(little AVS joke there for those in the know)

According to the Video Business report, Fawcett (Sony guy) cited NPD Group research for the data, but declined to declined to provide exact market share percentages of the two sides. Fawcett is said to have attributed the surge as mostly due to the introduction of Sony's $499 player in early June.

I have an HD-A20 and a PS3 but leaned red because the extras did count. Bye Bye HD, you gave it your best, that's all we could ask. Sony, finish your damn product already!

The Numbers: 900+ DVDs (rapidly declining), 34 HD-DVDs (+1 on order, + 5 free), 17 BDs (+2 on order). Last movie: Close Encounters.

You know i dont know about that, I have read articles stating that Blu-Ray standalone sales were increasing significantly over the summer months.

Amazon is not the be all and end all, and as many people have stated there is a large part of the population that dosent like buying electronics over the internet and having it mailed to them, kinda hard to bring it back if it needs repairs or something when you do that, having an actual store to go back to for support is valuable to a ton of people. which is exactly the reason we have all these wonderful B&M shops and its not all just wal-mart and best-buy

There's also a large section of the population that doesn't like buying $500 electronic equipment that will be obsolete by Q1 2008 (assuming their aren't any more delays )

I'll believe this when we see the stats until then this article has about as much credibility as bill hunt

Also, while I'm not taking this claim to heart, remember that there are more options for Blu-ray players. The Toshiba players could easily be selling more than any other player and still loose in total sales to the combined sales of all Blu-ray players.
