Anyone notice how the Amazon ranking page is now part of High Def Digest now? How convenient

I think it would be nice to show the International Amazon bestseller numbers, like for the UK.

Without any huge releases this last couple of weeks, Blu Ray still has the top spot with 300 (BD) sitting at 273. Heroes, HD-DVD's big guns for the end of august is sitting below 2700!!! The next highest, and highest HD-DVD on the Amazon UK charts is....ready for it...

Visions of the Sea: Explorations!!!!

Sitting just south of ranking 1300 and retailing under 20 bucks usd, this is the HD-DVD best seller sweeping the United Kingdom.

Paints a whole different picture of this format war as soon as you step outside North America..

Heroes which is only on the 3 or 4th episode in the UK (on terrestrial TV)

Not to mention the fact that amazon uk aren't even taking pre-orders for it yet.

That 2700 rank is based on people IMPORTING THAT DISC FROM AMERICA

Taking these facts into account 2700 is a pretty bloody impressive result

Please, get a clue

Have fun arguing over by-the-minute sales numbers from one retailer. This forum is going to go nuts with this info.

Its nice. I was wondering why the color of Blu-ray had changed a bit, and then when I noticed it was embedded in High-def Digest I thought my browser was broken and spliced some pages together .

They've already been doing this for a while. This just makes the page accesible from this website.

Might be nice if the right hand side of the original page also made it High-def digest...

Default Umm Preorders shouldnt be on the list.

Ive preordered the Spiderman box set but have yet to pay for it. I dont think it should be counted as a sell until I pay.

a pre-order is a contract to buy

when you buy a house you don't own it from the moment your first payment clears. You own it from the moment you sign the contracts. Same thing applies here

Actually you don't even own it then. The bank owns it.

But they dont charge you until they ship it so they have sold nothing. And you can always cancel the order at any time. Now for $65.00 for 3 movies im not going to do that but I did on the Matrix collection when Best Buy said they would match the Amazon price and I didnt need to wait for it to be shipped.

So even the Blu-ray/HD DVD websites are "securing exclusives" to draw people into being devoted to their content...

Isn't that JUST TYPICAL in this format war...

When comparing two titles (Customized Graphs - Custom movie vs movie comparison), for the blue line, it would be better to have access to BD titles first in the list.

Code:

Blu-ray

HD DVD

I completely agree that pre-orders shouldn't count in a comparison of disc sales. If the title hasn't even been released yet, then no one owns it. It is a contract to buy, so long as you keep the contract active; you can back out at any time, so many of those pre-orders will end up not counting as actual sales.

And it's not anything like buying a house. It's not like buying anything on credit, actually. When you buy a house, you take out a mortgage with the bank, the bank buys the house, and you pay the bank back (plus interest) over time. With an Amazon pre-order, no one purchases anything; you're just reserving your place in line. You're not charged anything until the item ships, and like I said, you can back out at any time.

Anyway, this is just one reason why minute-by-minute statistics are really unimportant to evaluating the market as a whole. Aside, of course, from providing fodder for debate in forums like this. Really, these statistics don't show much of anything when taken out of context, such as they are. There are all kinds of control factors and context to be accounted for; but that's not to say it's not interesting to look at essentially live numbers from a major retailer, even if direct comparisons of this kind don't mean much.
