"The HD format is about stand-alone players, not game systems. We don’t think gamers will buy movies," said HD DVD Promo Group co-chairman Ken Graffeo.
I found that statement offensive for many reasons.

As a gamer who loves movies, I must say that is going to alienate people like me. All that did was piss me off. I'm sick of being ignored as a demographic.

have you read some of his other statements?

"it's not early adopters yet, these are early, early adopters"

"if it [hddvd] fails at least you've still got an excellent upconverting dvd player"

Me too. But they used the word "will". 360 owners will buy Halo 3, etc. PS3 owners will probably have access to more great game titles in the near future.

It's nice to know some people are so quick to label themselves.

Very Unpolitical... even if you believe in something you can't alienate an entire deomgraphic just to appeal to a sellect few that dont play games in the least.

I myself own a standalone BD player and play my games on Computer, but I wouldn't alienate any demographic when that demographic is prospective "Buyers". (like prospective "voters" to Politicians)

My favourite quote from the conference:

That was the video. "It's true, it cost very much," Fujii said.

The big difference between today and yesterday is that yesterday was a good news day. Not a lets bash the competition day. Good to know that Paramount admits they weren't thinking about the consumer when they made their decision.

The Graffeo comment on gamers was stupid on so many levels, especially considering the add-on to the 360 gaming console has accounted for approximately half of Universal's sales (estimate based on hardware sales).

What exactly was this supposed to mean?

Here's some other labels I'll put on myself: husband, father, programmer, and consumer. Now, what the hell is your point?

I'll refrain from pinning any labels on you.

Come on guys. How many parents or families will have the PS3 or the 360 add on in the living room? Only a few. The rest will buy stand alone players. Even though the gaming population is getting big every day (I am part as well) the millions of houses in the US just to mention an example will prefer a BD- player or HD DVD player instead of a Game console with exception of the Wii.

In this forum must of us have game consoles for HD movies and game use but that does not mean that the rest of the consumers will make that as a standard?

I don't really care what they say, so long as they keep churning out movies.

The best thing is that they are finally offering the 5 free discs to Europe, woo hoo ! Bout damn time ! We always get second best, I dont care what the titles are its the thought that counts!!

The Pricing doesnt look to shabby either!

I'm a gamer too, but who really cares what they said, it wasnt a personal dig at us personally, cough cough Sony

People and their feelings. I am offended? A demographic of gamers being ignored? Add-on and PS3 are examples of the demographic not being ignored. The fact is stand alone machines will determine the winner of the format. HD DVD is not that far ahead on these devices from the last official number but that is what will determine the winner. The BD and HD DVD stand alone adopters buy more movies than the gamers.
