Default VideoBusiness: No change due to Nickerson's leaving WB

http://www.videobusiness.com/index.a...leid=CA6471669

"WHV spokesman Jim Noonan said that Nickerson’s leaving doesn’t suggest an upcoming shift in the studio’s high-def operations."

Hmm. Reminds me of the PS3 pricecut. Sony denied it and then lowered the price by $100 a few days later.

It will be interesting to see what pans out with Warner. I think they will eventually pick a side.

Sounds like it to me also. If WB is going to remain nuetral, they probably would have reaffirmed it by now. It's possibly they are listening to both sides now but in the end remain nuetral though.

I'm telling you. MS has bought WB. Bill Gates son is about to become the new CEO.

They'll keep the WB tho, but it will be for "Windows Blockbuster".

I have an HD-A20 and a PS3 but leaned red because the extras did count. Bye Bye HD, you gave it your best, that's all we could ask. Sony, finish your damn product already!

The Numbers: 900+ DVDs (rapidly declining), 34 HD-DVDs (+1 on order, + 5 free), 17 BDs (+2 on order). Last movie: Close Encounters.

Nothing's official till it's official. While his leaving "doesn’t suggest an upcoming shift in the studio’s high-def operations", that doesn't mean it won't happen. Personally I think Warner would be giving up a lot in terms of what they put into TotalHD to drop Blu-ray. It's not a decision that's going to happen on a whim or be influenced by another company. That being said, they're already 2/3rds in with HD DVD in terms of the support, encoding methodology and exclusive HD DVD titles that may someday be on Blu-ray. But if the Nov.1 change doesn't go as planned, or they don't turn out enough upgraded players fast enough, then I could see them dropping/delaying more and more Blu-ray titles till they're essentially exclusive anyways.

The leaving didn't mean squat. It just happened at an inopportune time. Stop reading into things...well, nevermind...then we wouldn't have any gossip here.

They made him sign a package and leave. Then WB is getting everyone thinkign they are gonna go to one side or the other and in reality they will screw all high def supporters and just solely make regular DVDs and stop the high def content production AHHH gossip

After reading the article I think something is up. Warner did not exactly praise neutrality in that article as they have done in the past and seemed vague...

They'll be picking a side shortly. Just spin and PR, prepare for it, either way it's going to be a cluster.

I have no idea what to think.

I will say it would look very bad to abandon the format that has made 300 the #1 HD title sold of all time (300 on blu-ray has sold more than any other title on either format combined), and currently tops the charts as the #1 HD seller (on blu-ray).

The best way to predict what a company is about to do is to look at what they are doing and not doing right now. Forget about what they say. Press releases have nothing to do with openness and honesty. They are tools for strategic positioning, nothing more.

http://hddvdformat.blogspot.com/ (Don't know how reliable this is, they don't have a link to Warner's announcement)

Add to this Warner's announcement (if true) of a combo version of Licensed to Wed, that would pretty much discount a move to BD exclusivity.

Either they are staying neutral or going HD-DVD.
