Default PARAMOUNT and DREAMWORKS HD DVD news!!

Guys,

Check out this rumor:

http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/

Let's see what happens. To be honest, this format war is just forcing us movie lovers to buy both. Right now I have an HD DVD player, but as time goes by I know I'm going to have to be format neutral since Sony and some of the BDA studios have films that I like. The same goes for Blu-ray guys and Universal movies. If we're movie lovers we have to have both and a deal like the one mentioned here simply adds more fuel to this fire.

UPDATE: This news has been confirmed

Hmm, sounds like a pre-emptive strike by Microsoft in case Paramount and Dreamworks decided to go Blu-ray exclusive!

Really, it's just Microsoft trying to hold off the inevitable! The whole thing about HD DVD exclusivity on some catalog titles is just bait to try and get people to invest in a format they know isn't doing very well right now.

Oh, when i say 'Microsoft', that isn't a fact, it's just who I believe personally may be the beneficiary.

This isnt really a new strategy. Im quite sure Sony and Toshiba probably paid other studio's to release their brand or release their brand exclusively. This may seem like desperation. But, im find with it. That means I can get some new titles in HD DVD that I thought i would be able to, like the Shrek Movies. I dont care what they payout. It's not coming from my pockets.

It sounds a bit like this deal is not so much for exclusivity, but just to make sure Paramount doesn't stop releasing on HD DVD. That would be desperate and sounds more like HD DVD loses, if Paramount were thinking of dropping HD DVD support.

If this goes through... will "Indiana Jones" be HD DVD exclusive??? They're "catalog" films, so... let's see!! "The Godfather", "Braveheart"... It could get really interesting.

I would probably think "Transformers" will be neutral though so that's good news to everybody.

"Based on conversations with multiple sources, we believe that Paramount is set to make the vast majority of its catalog available exclusively in the HD-DVD format (unclear whether that includes titles from its sister studio DreamWorks).

If this is true, which I doubt it is, it's good to see that HD DVD is finally playing dirty, just like Blu-ray. Reach into those deep pockets and keep up the fight. The Dreamworks deal could be huge, considering that HD DVD's only real family-friendly offerings are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Happy Feet, and The Grinch. Also, Paramount is raking it in, and to have them increase thier support of the format would be welcomed.

Still, the wording of the memo (HD DVD dying a slow death...etc.) leads me to believe that this is not true at all.

Also, here's a direct link for when they update the site.

Again, catalog. Good for enthusiasts but far from a game-changer, even for something like Indiana Jones. I still say no catalog title would have as much potential impact as the Matrix, and we see how much impact that has had.

Indiana Jones, Gladiator, Shrek. These are all good things to possibly come.

I think I'll start counting how many times the Blu-Ray fanboys say "desperate" or "desperate attempt", starting with Harako.

Desperate: 1

I wonder if Sony hasn't already started "bargaining" to make Paramount Blu-Ray exclusive ? Or maybe they feel they don't need to.

All i need to have confirmed is Transformers on Blu-ray, other than that, they can do what they want with the rest of their movies!

Here are the catalog franchise titles that I think will make a big impact on HD:

Jurassic Park
Star Wars
The Lord of the Rings
Indiana Jones
Alien

This is a pure speculation based article. How in the world would he get access to anything that related to this "deal" if it existed. there are ALWAYS nondisclosure agreements involved in deals.

Pure FUD. But it did it's job. People are now reading the blog. Just what the author wanted - exposure.
