Both Fomats vs Standard Def
In a weak a and pathetic attempt to rally everyone in the Smackdown section I am starting this thread.
We fight all day long. Back and forth about this and that. At the end of the day we all want to win. Both formats kick the crap out of standard def and on that fact alone I would just like to say to the Blu Ray fans. If HD DVD doesnt win the war than I am happy knowing Blu Ray had to put up one hell of a fight and deserves the victory. I know HD DVD fans just want the same respect from Blu Ray fans.
So for the sake of killing standard def, join this thread and say something nice about the other format. I will go first.
The protective coating on Blu Ray discs kick ass.
Kingdom of Heaven looks awsome and I hope that Gladiator looks and sounds just as good no matter what format its on.
I think it sucks that Warner is neutral but hasnt released certain movies on Blu Ray.Mitsubishi WD-57734 1080p DLP

The problem with HD making DVD obsolete is that it's dependent on consumers buying expensive HD TV sets. Without one, there's no point getting HD-DVD or Blu ray. So the real wait is on people upgrading their TVs, which unfortunately is a taller order than getting everyone to buy a HD movie player. The current install base of HDTVs is still not enough to make BD/HD-DVD mainstream.
VHS and DVD both ran on the same TV, so consumers didn't have to upgrade their TVs to make the most of DVD.
As you wish though: HD-DVD is very affordably priced. -

blu-ray has more space making it good for extra lossless audio tracks and higher bit-rate

HD DVD made Blu-ray to lift their game with encoding and extras.

The format neutral studios need to start upping the video quality on Blu-ray to take advantage of the space along with including uncompressed audio on all titles.
Take advantage of the extra space. Please!Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful)

Blu-ray has The Patriot and Kingdom of Heaven. Plus, some of their stand alone players are beautiful pieces of machinery.

I believe HDM will remain niche until HDTV becomes the norm in people's homes. It's slow, but it's coming.Remember in 2009,all broadcast signals are to be digital,no more analog.
And second, walk into any brick and mortar store and go to the TV section.HDTV is being thrown in your face.Anyone nowadays looking to buy a tv will be shown LCD,Plasma,LCD RP,DLP,etc etc.The reasons for buying analog CRT tvs are few if any.
Will HDM overtake DVD?? Not anytime this decade. But neither is it going to fall by the wayside.Samsung 46" LCDTV

Depending on the film (quality of the source) when it's upscaled right there is very little difference. It's interesting to play the "is it HD" game in electronics and department stores. I walked through Sears last night, they had Wild Hogs and Pirates of the Caribbean playing, I had to check the players to see which one was actually in HD. Upscaling with a good source can fill in enough information to trick your eyes most of the time, and even when it falters it doesn't detract from the experience of watching a good movie.

What a funny thread. (My name is Blu-Christmas and I've been addicted to Blu-ray for almost a year now. As part of my 12 step program I must visit the smackdown forum and say something nice about HD DVD.) LOL
But I like the spirit of the thread, so here goes:
HD DVD has more space than DVD! And, if HD DVD met DVD in a back alley one night, I bet it could kick its' @ss! (Besides, HD DVD could always call his big brother Blu-ray if he had a problem.)
