Default Blu-ray outpaces HD-DVD in U.S.: Home Media Research

http://uk.reuters.com/article/techno...19176920070815

As everyone already knows this. Blu-Ray is out selling HD DVD by 2:1. Here are some actual disc sales totals so far for both in the first 2 quarters.

Well, everyone who reads the Sales Data and Rank sub Forum already knows this, which is where this should have been posted.

Already "better" -

"Stephen Nickerson, senior vice president, market management at Warner Home Video (TWX.N: Quote, Profile, Research), reported sales of about 190,000 Blu-ray units of the film, versus 97,000 in HD-DVD since July 31."

BD 190,000 / 97,000 HD DVD = 1.9 to 1

LOL no doubt that is better, I stand corrected, It will get better for a bit, then worse, before it gets better.

Yes, HD DVD's percentage of sales dropped. They were outsold 3 to 1 on 300 last week.

With all the Blu-Ray stuff coming out last week, we'll see how it affected the numbers, I'm eagerly anticipating Friday.

OK, so Blu-ray has sold 700,000 discs more than HD DVD including all titles in half of 2007. and 300 sold 7 million DVDs in the first week on just that title alone.

700,000 discs across all titles is not a ton.

it's 2.5 percent of disc sales, so for all those people who keep on saying we aren't even 1 percent of sales - you're wrong. And we'll probably be past 5 percent over this q4.

Exactly, the growth is coming along well actually.... do people really expect HiDef sales to outpace SD DVD right away?!

nice... not that bad for high def disc sales... now if that samsung dual format player gets agressive on pricing. or if the hd dvd and bd camps have some sneaky tricks up their sleeves for this holiday season... look for bd ab hd-dvd to shoot through the roof... also look for more high def sales if combo discs start replacing sd dvds.

This constant 'the market isn't big enough' crap really has to stop....the market has to grow slowly, just like DVD on its way to beating VHS...

anyone who thinks that blu ray disks or HD DVD disk will as many DVD right now is totally clueless...

but i guess that is what is the HD DVD playbook of how to respond when people talk about how blu ray is winning...either complain that the market is too small or that the Wii outsells the PS3...someone please cry me a river...

Default The Masses are <fill in the blank>

Obviously Joe Public doesn't care what's technically superior or what's cheaper. All he cares about is what will play in his PS3.

2:1 in sales in blu-ray's favor is not that wide of gap. Sony better keep them coming because hd dvd is not giving up. I know alot of you think it is only a matter of time before hd dvd is done. But, I will believe it when I actually see it...in sales and a wider ratio than 2:1! Still...this is good news for camp blu.

I was very surprised to learn that 300 sold so much better on BD than HD because, being format neutral and learning of the advantages of owning the HD I went for that one myself even though I prefer BD.

Now that I've adopted both formats I really don't want to see either go under really although I know it's inevitable that one eventually will.

Dude, don't say you're format neutral when you say you prefer BD.
