Wow! That is incredible 30% sales to that of DVD. To all those people who said that HD was small potatoes compared to HD, you are eating your words if this article is right. "300" has put HD optical on the map. This is good news for both formats and good news for HD optical!

Once again: the only "winners" of the high def war right now are Warner Bros. and Paramount.

I'm sure BD outsold the HD DVD version, but combined they move over 250k - Warner Bros. looks like freakin' geniuses right now!

So that means OTHER studios will go neutral when they know they can sell more Blu-Ray?

Uh, did I say that?

Go back and read my post and SHOW me where I said other studios would go neutral? I'll wait . . .

All I said was, REGARDLESS of how well 300 sold on BD, combined with HD DVD it shatters the record and continues to justify their neutral stance.

Yeah but if it is 2:1 for Bly-Ray, that alone could send a huge message to Universal. Not that Amazon means much, but the Blu-Ray version of "300" has been hovering between #2 and #4.

All the same, 250K will make studios take notice.

Think about it, when Bourne Ultimatum is released and only sells 100k copies, Uni will have missed out on at least 200k sales, which DO make a difference. Currently their best title sold about 20k copies, and assuming 2:1 ratio, they're losing out 40k sales, which may not mean that much. But losing out on a great number of sales would be a very strong incentive for Universal to go blue. So ironically, to make this format war end, I hope Bourne is a great seller

I did read your post, and I did understand what you meant, but this is a smackdown and I couldn't help but propose a what if? Yes, it's great for Warner and HD in general, but... You left it out there! It was too easy

Sorry for the black eye!

Hey, I don't mind your what if, but by quoting me you made it seem like that was what I was implying. I'm an English teacher, so I'm anal about how people's words get used, taken out of context, etc. I defend my words vigorously - they're my babies!

I agree with ack - this could send a message to Universal, depending how the ratio breaks down. WB is putting high def in general on the map, and I imagine it's hard for Universal not to notice this.

Edited for late-night poor word usage!

I think it will be more like 140:110 for Blu. But it could be closer. HD DVD has a history of coming out of the gates strong and falling fast while Bu-Ray chugs along. I actually think that the Nielsen numbers will be close this month, but who knows? The numbers do seem to indicate that quite a few PS3 owners jumped on board. It could be higher for Blu..

Sorry about quoting you, I hope everyone can see your statement and my hypo. I would love to get my hands on some of Uni's cats! but I really can't see any studio other than Uni. going neutral.

Who will fall, One or Five? These studios are exclusive for one reason... They know Blu-ray is the future!

Yeah, I am proud of that one, but it actually made me sound a little meaner than I feel. I kid because I love!

And Bd is my future - just not until the holidays.

At any rate, I picked up 300 on HD DVD and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. And my wife actually liked it, too! I guess I see now why this has been such a phenomenon.
