Upcoming 2012 Home Video Releases
I thought it might be useful to have a reference thread that was discussing the new theatrical releases for 2012 and their upcoming total box office comparisons.

Hop wasn't released last year on DVD?
(edit)
There are 2 movies coming out this year in theaters that will probably not significantly help DVD sales- Titanic and Phantom Menace (in 3D). And there's also Beauty and the Beast. Those films could easily boost ticket sales but have little real effect on DVD sales as people who went to see them likely already have the films on DVD (or blu-ray when available). -

Hop was in theaters last Easter. Its being released this year on home video around Easter. Its about a bunny http://www.iwantcandy.com/

I think its entirely possible that Titanic and Phantom Menace 3D will help Blu-ray sales, Titanic especially. Beauty and the Beast 3D less so as that was a recent Blu-ray release..

'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1'
This is hitting home video sooner than I thought to coincide with Valentine's Day.
In 2010 there were two Twilight Saga movies which helped the 2010 vs 2011 TBO be the way it was so its a good start for 2012 home video TBO to see this title.
There also is a mention that Walmart is now at DVD marketshare of 40% for Blu-ray as well as DVD.
Feb 10 2012 is midnight Friday night 12:00 AM 1/10/12 12:01 AM 1/11/12

'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1'
Walmart Jan. 30 said it would release The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 with exclusive features on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in a special midnight opening Feb. 10 at more than 2,700 stores nationwide.
With Walmart representing about 40% of all DVD and Blu-ray sellthrough, the retailer rolling out the red carpet for the next-to-last installment in the popular teen vampire franchise bodes well for the bottom line at Summit Home Entertainment, including new owner Lionsgate.
Indeed, the "Twilight" franchise has generated about $1.5 billion in revenue from both theatrical and home entertainment. The first title, The Twilight Saga, generated $194 million in home entertainment revenue, according to reports.
The Breaking Dawn — Part 1 DVD will retail for $22.96 and the Blu-ray for $26.96. Special features exclusive to Walmart include Bella's Wedding Special Edition, featuring collectible wedding dress packaging, a fabric poster of Bella and Edward's big day, and music videos from Bruno Mars and Christina Perri.
Other "Twilight" merchandise include The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 National Edition (DVD $19.96, Blu-ray $22.96); The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn soundtrack (CD $11.88); The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Dance Poster ($5.00); and books from the "Twilight" series, including Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, at $7.64 each.
Beginning at 11 p.m. the Bentonville, Ark.-based retail behemoth will bow in-store "Twilight" parties featuring giveaways, movie trivia and a bakery stocked with Twilight-themed treats, such as cupcakes and cakes. Store visitors also can catch a cameo appearance from Rosalie Cullen (Nikki Reed) on the Walmart’'s in-store television network while waiting for the midnight unveil.
"We're excited to give the millions of 'Twilight' fans a place to unite, celebrate and receive exclusive Breaking Dawn collectibles at a great price,” said Seong Ohm, SVP and GM of entertainment for Walmart U.S.

As long as they mean 40% of DVD and 40% of Blu-ray-- and not 40% of optical-- then that seems like a Blu-ray adoption milestone worth pointing out.

I think that's what they mean.
The Walmart marketshare of DVD sales has been remarkably stable at 40% or DVD for quite a while and I've been told recently its still the case. But until recently Walmart has been laggard in its marketshare of overall Blu-ray sales as Best Buy and Amazon have had larger Blu-ray shares than DVD shares.
It would be a sign of Blu-ray's growing mainstream status as a mass market product that the Blu-ray marketshare at marketshare at Walmart would become even to the DVD marketshare there.
Its unlikely the DVD share of the market would have dropped at Walmart so I'm sure that's what they meant. That Walmart has both a 40% share of both DVD and Blu-ray sales which of course would also mean 40% of overall OD sales if both were the same.
It only makes sense that the Walmart Blu-ray marketshare would trend to its DVD share over time as Blu-ray matures as a mainstream mass market product..

John Carter with a March 2012 theatrical release.
Should be a pretty good 3Q release on home video as this summer's Watchmen, Clash of the Titans, Fast Five type big summer home video release sometime around July 2012.
John Carter’s Long Road from the Civil War to the Silver Screen
One of the most anticipated motion pictures of the first half of this year is Disney’s John Carter. Slated for a March 9 release, the sci-fi/fantasy stars Friday Night Lights’ Taylor Kitsch as the title character, a Confederate soldier who is transported to Mars, where he becomes involved with the conflicts between the various nations of the planet — known as “Barsoom” to its inhabitants.
John Carter boasts an impressive cast and crew. In addition to Kitsch, the film costars Bryan Cranston, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, and Dominic West. Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton directed and cowrote the script with Mark Andrews and noted author Michael Chabon. Emmy- and Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino wrote the score.
With so many big names involved in the production, as well as a budget soaring over $250 million, it’s no surprise that Disney aficionados and movie buffs have kept John Carter in their sights for a few years now (I can remember hearing about it as far back as the summer of 2008). With such anxious anticipation, the film has generated plenty of buzz, both positive and negative.
This movie’s circuitous road to the big screen is a fascinating one. It’s a long journey that encompasses a century and involves an array of twists and turns that befit an action epic. So buckle up and enjoy the ride.
The character of John Carter was the brainchild of author Edgar Rice Burroughs, best known as the creator of Tarzan. Burroughs’ first published work was the serialized novel Under the Moons of Mars, which he sold to All-Story Magazine for $400 in 1911, before he completed his first Tarzan novel. The novel first appeared in book form as A Princess of Mars in 1917. Burroughs expanded the saga of John Carter into a series of eleven books, including a two-novella collection published after his death.
