He is talking about selling $35 limited edition Blu-ray of old movies to enthusiasts. The dude kinda has a small bit of bias and a self serving bias to imply that studios will raise Blu-ray prices.

Of course, raising Blu-ray prices is kinda contrary to the usual BS we here from the pessimists that say the studios will desperately be lowering prices for Blu-ray because its failing.

So who's footing the bill for UltraViolet?

Getting back on topic, has anybody seen BDs prices rise? Not in my area. Bond flicks are now $5.
No one is forcing you read or post here. If you don't like the conversation feel free to exit the thread.

Ahh yes, you must attack the guy because he said many things (which he would know since he regularly talks to the studios - unlike you) that proved you wrong.

But I really have to laugh at the 'self serving bias' comment. What do you think we all say when we heard studios heads talking about how awesome OD / Blu-ray is doing? It's their job. Why would they not talk up their product?

Ben-Hur for $12.99? No where near that low in my area, still in a few months...

Warner must think opposite of Twilight Time as they think catalogue sales are doing better according to their recent article and facebook posts:

Warner will say whatever. You think they will tell people sales are bad? Of course not. They have too much to lose. Didn't they release less catalog this year anyway?

Why not? They have in the past called out bad sales when they are bad. They do the same for theatrical. One exec from Disney called the situation late last year sobering, Disney had a different tune now so the answer is...yes.

It really seems like pure hypocrisy when you want to ignore quotes from studio executives when they are favorable to Blu-ray or more optimistic and just discount them entirely when you bring up the same years old quotes over and over again when you can twist them into something gloomy and pessimistic. Clear pessimistic double standard in your presentation when you seem to not want to recognize that its not what you want to hear.

Pretty much everyone here sees through your games.

While I'm not sure, I would believe that there are R&D costs associated with the development of any new technology. So my thinking is that these investments would be recouped in the price of owning UV movies, streaming and charging for cloud storage.

It's probably an investment that they hope to get returns in. Problem is, like I've said before, I think they are late to the party.

You believe they would really charge for cloud storage of UV? That would be a death knell I think. Or maybe they already do, I have no idea.

currently all their language is directed to "at least one year" free. outside of that range, no one knows what is going to happen. they could charge a "maintenance" fee or not.
