I canceled my pre-order for Vita. It's all but dead launching a year after the 3DS and on the cusp of the iPad 3.

Point is people are moving away from Discs. But please. Go think more happy thoughts about bluray. Obviously you don't get it.

    Exaggerate much?

Even the week of 7/30/11 the slowest week of the year, over 8,120,000 DVD units and 970,000 Blu-ray units for a total of 9,090,00 in units and $108,780,000 in revenues.

    That's hardly nothing.

Even in decline packaged media is still a very large product category and Blu-ray is growing not declining.

Why in the hell would anyone even consider including a optical disc drive in a form factor of a tablet or a smartphone? No one wants them in laptops anymore.

Heck , I did not even want a Blu-ray drive in my new laptop , it does not make sense with the wealth of other options and Netflix streaming.

Dying. Discs are dying. Saying otherwise is pretty laughable. Just like you said - no one wants optical disc drives anymore.

Blu-ray is growing. DVD is in decline.

Your failure to separate the two is amusing.

Oh I get it just fine. But then I realize that films will be released on disc for a great many years to come.

...just not on Blu-ray. At least in no great amount. Already proven by the lackluster selection of titles, and the shrinking retailer support.

What planet are you from again?

There is no shrinking retailer support for Blu-ray.

Maybe in you own corner of the universe, but not anywhere else.

Blu-ray will be around for many years to come under any circumstances.

Oh come on Kosty. You know Best Buy is hiding them behind the dishwashers.

And yet digital movie sales declined in Q2 YoY, and digital rental was flat. So they are not watching movies on these devices, they are probably on Facebook.

Contrary to your beliefs, very few people are interested in watching stuff on miniature phone screens. Tablets are better but there aren't that many of them yet.

So you've spoken to millions of people?

Sorry, you're wrong. If that was the case, there would not be Netflux, Hulu, iTunes etc. packed into phones for viewing movies/TV shows 'on the go'. Good try though.

So we can be clear - yet again.

No one gives a crap about buying movies digitally. You fail to look at NETFLIX, HULU, HBO GO, AMAZON VOD etc. That's how people are watching. You casually forgot to mention that in your post. Shocking right?

Incorrect as usual. Do you think HMM would publish a piece of OD shrinking from stores? Doubtful.

I agree partially. A few people watch stuff on phone/iPod/iPad screens, but that has also gone over to home video sales. Digital sales are down, OD sales are waaaayyyy down. Kosty will try and seperate Blu from DVD, but will avoid any burden of proof that studios look at it like that.
All those 25 year olds that were supposed to purchase catalog and new release to build their collection are not doing that, and will not do that. We have seen the ceiling on home video sales (DVD) and now we are being shown the floor (OD).
