Blu-ray passes HD DVD in overall PQ and SQ on High Def Digest
As of today Blu-ray's overall picture quality and audio quality is ahead of HD DVD with Peter's ratings on High Def Digest.
Great news for Blu-ray.
High Def Digest (76HD/58BD) review comparison. Last updated 12.22.06
Smackdown!Code:HD DVD PQ SQ TOTAL Blu-ray PQ SQ TOTAL 3.90 3.68 3.79 3.91 3.81 3.86
Coincidentally the overall lead is 0.07, which ties in nicely with the news that Casino Royale will tentatively be on Blu-ray on March 13th, 2007. Looks like Sony Pictures are starting to get their Blu-ray act in full gear. A Spiderman announcement at CES 2007 will be excellent.Last edited by dobyblue; 12-22-2006 at 08:34 AM.

Why is there another thread on this when we already spent an entire thread saying you can't compare one movie to a different one because the source, age and the way it was encoded is different and therefor not comparable in an average like this.

Blah, blah, blah. Leave the moderating to the mods.
There is no thread in here with a title regarding the ratings that are done on this site. Now there is.
I do think there is language in Peter's reviews that would lend an argument to his favouring HD DVD, which he should as it was far stronger out of the gates. Overall he does a good job though which is why I include his reviews in the three sites I keep track of; here, DVD Talk and Home Theater Spot. -

FOR THE SAKE OF EVERYONE, MODERATE YOURSELF! Check to see if there's a thread on the topic you're about to post, Blu-ray Movie Titles Surpassing HD-DVD?, or if there's a relevant thread where a post can add something to the conversation. Otherwise we end up with 4-5 active threads where the same arguments are added to each thread and the point of the thread is lost.
Reviews are SUBJECTIVE (def: relating to or being experience or knowledge as conditioned by personal mental characteristics or states). Two reviews can both get 4.5s but have different qualities which were subjective to the film and not relative to other titles. -

Here's the grand totals from the other sites I've been monitoring a few times a week.

Arrrgghhh... Positive ... Blu-ray... Must... post... garbage.
Well done Aodh - you remain typically true to your roots.
I think the info is not at all that suprising, but it will be a long while yet before people, like Aodh, will ever admit that picture quality for Blu-ray is a non-issue anymore.
What I find more interesting is that sound quality completely blows HD DVD away from basically every site across the board. Even when some of the releases had poor video, the PCM bitstream tracks tended to give a level of audio that HD DVD never could quite match on most releases.
Thanks for posting - and great news for HD DVD! -

You're response is always "Let the Moderators moderate", you should be showing a little self control when starting new threads. The principal is that you can't compare subjective ratings.
Let's say I went to the theatre and saw two movies, I really liked the first one and hated the second. That doesn't mean all movies are "Neutral". One is good and one isn't. -

This is one of the lamest and desperate threads yet.
What exactly is WRONG with you HD DVD haters?
You have to compare identical movies on identical displays to come up with a comparison. That's why it's called a..uh....COMPARISON! -

umm...
I'm saying you can't compare Miami Vice to Matador to King Kong to X-men III to Transporter to Kingdom of Heaven. They all have different cinematography styles which impacted the PQ rating. Each film stands on it's own. The closest you can get is comparing like titles M:I:III on BD to HD, where the master and cinematography would be constant between the two, which leaves the encoding to define the difference. Even then if they're both the same codec, there won't be any notable differences. When they use different codecs, then you MAY notice something, but that depends on how it was encoded.
The reason I'm against this as a thread is that all the arguments which go into subjective reviews are already on another thread, where this post should have been added so that they don't need to be repeated. -

We've already been down this road! Again: garbage in, garbage out! If The Godfather (30 years old) comes out on one format and gets 3 stars for PQ/audio and Employee of the Month (this year) gets 4.5 stars for the other format, guess what happens to the overall score?? And which one would you rather have in your collection? IF BR puts out all the classics and makes them look as nice as humanly possible based on age, yet HD DVD puts out nothing but crap, yet looks and sounds better, which would you choose? BUT WAIT!!! HD DVD has a better overall grade, so think carefully!!!!

This is desperation for any "good" Blu-ray news.
Unfortunately, the only good news that counts is discs sales. Luckily blu-ray has had some good release (actual GOOD movies) in the past couple weeks. We aren't these faithful Blu-ray Warriors out buying them? The Descent just came out! -

Yeah there is no point even trying to refute this thread. Its absolutely pointless. Let the BD fans keep this one and they can all come in here and rave how BD is beating HD-DVD. Personally I have better things to do and more interesting threads to respond to then to waste my time with this garbadge. the fact that their are 18 more HD films than BD is just one of the many BS factors with this entire idea.
What will they come up with next?
