If HD DVD had won, would the optical disc market as a whole be growing?

Would the optical disc market, including DVD, be growing if HD DVD had won the format war instead of bluray?? -

Well it's only been 2 hours.
You should've created this poll 6 or so weeks ago. Anniversary and all. -

I'm on the record as being a huge HD DVD supporter during the format war. But its only logical that the same economic and consumer climate that is facing Blu-Ray would have faced HD DVD. As we know now, HD optical was just going to be in for a bit of a rough ride, period. Consumer apathy, a dumpy economy and lazy studios are all problems that HD DVD would have been dealing with now.
Having said that, I'm just glad we managed to get a good optical HD product at all. Its looking like some of the films we have on Blu-Ray (and a couple on HD DVD) might end up being the best versions we'll ever own. -

I'm sorry, but who the hell cares about HD DVD anymore. How many years ago now has it been since it's been relevant?
I don't think anyone is trying to argue that if HD DVD would've won it'd be doing any better than blu-ray.
Blu-ray's doing just fine regardless. It's the current state of Hollywood, Theatrical and Home Video, Disc and Digital, everything... that we should be worrying about. The entire industry is down, NOTHING is making up for the losses in either home video or theaters, and I find it funny that so many think it's logical to just lump that problem on blu-ray's back
I personally think piracy is the problem. Pretty much every technically savvy person I know pirates movies and music without a second thought or an ounce of guilt in their minds. It's just second nature nowadays for almost anyone 25 or younger. It just isn't frowned upon by that age group at all.Blu-ray Discs Owned: 237

Hey look buddy, you're preaching to the choir here
Like I said, I was a big HD DVD supporter. Lots of us were, and we had no problem getting behind Blu-Ray. Not sure why some people still want to beat it up all the time. Personally I like to direct my complaints against lazy studios when they deliver us crappy BD product - but that's not a format issue. The format itself is great and its clearly got many years of life left in it. I certainly hope so anyway, because I suspect we may have reached the top of the home video peak with Blu-Ray.

I think the OP is the only one claiming HDDVD would have done any better. I've said it before and I'll say it again. We would probably be in the same spot we are in right now. So that being said this poll is just another lame attempt to bring up the format war in a way to throw it in the faces of former HDDVD supporters. I guess when your format if failing to live up to expectations make a poll like this?
Sony BDP-S1, Toshiba A3, Xbox HD DVD Addon. Samsung 1600, Insignia BR W/Netflix!
