Although I am not saying "also plays Netflix" in small text, if it's even listed in the ad, is a much better stance to take.
    You do. Numerous times.

Sorry, I have never once said anything as ridiculous as trying to use my mom as a representative of the buying habits of the rest of the country. That "honor" is yours exclusively.

Exactly. Some people really confuse the term "declining" with "dead". And Blu-Ray is an OD format and it not declining. OD is still very much alive.

Blu-ray isn't declining, but OD has been for 3+ years. OD dead? No. OD declining? Yes.

I think everyone agrees and understands this.

Of course, if DVD + Blu-ray revenues somehow manage in 2010 to exceed the 2009 sell through some heads might explode around here. That still would be down from the DVD 2006 peak, but OD would at least then not be declining. There is a chance that could happen. We will know better in a few days when we get some Black Friday results.

At this instant, before Black Friday data the combined DVD+BD revenues in the HMM stats are only -6.12% down for 47/52 weeks and the highest volume 6 weeks of the year are yet to come.

And some people are confusing the decline with disinterest, growing demand for digital content.. when most likely the drop is from mostly from the ending run of catalog titles(which I believe was 35% of the market at dvds height)

So CNN.com was reporting a .3% black Friday rise over last year. Apparently some of the limited growth was due to increased sales deals preceding black Friday. I know in my case I pulled the trigger on a PS3 bundle at amazon last Monday instead of waiting.

Still, I can only assume that retailers were hoping for better numbers. Was a good day for online retailers though, apparently they were up about 9%. As for BD I can only assume it did quite well with all the deals.

Amazon was up a whopping 25% for Friday.

Latest stats are now coming in with more of an increase in retail sales from data from National Assoc of Retailers and another source IIRC. We will get better stories tomorrow.

It's more than that. Just use this link to compare best selling DVDs per year from 2010 back to 2007. You can see the large drop in 2008:

I have to go back and read that again. I didn't see Bluray mentioned in that article at all.
Sony BDP-S1, Toshiba A3, Xbox HD DVD Addon. Samsung 1600, Insignia BR W/Netflix!

Its part of the electronics category (Blu-ray players) and video game consoles category (PS3s).

The CEA tracks hardware not software sales. Its the Consumer Electronics Association.

Err. Lee , thats because The-Numbers only tracks the DVD side of the equation. Most of that large drop in DVD volumes is........the growth of Blu-ray unit sales and revenues in 2008 2009 and 2010.

Those charts do not include Blu-ray units nor revenues for those titles, only the DVD side.

They only provide the Blu-ray side to their private clients or by subscription and its NDA.

Or when the release in question is only on a BD/DVD combo pack. In that case the BD $$$ are counted simply due to the fact that there is only one number to work from.
