Netflix raises prices (again) for Disc Users - Streaming Only plan now available.
Look at that. Another price hike and another "we are now primarily a streaming video company" quote.NEW YORK (Reuters) – Netflix Inc said it will offer its first unlimited streaming-only subscription plan in the U.S. for $7.99 a month, and raise prices of its popular unlimited streaming and unlimited DVD plan by a dollar to $9.99 a month.
Netflix shares rose 5 pct in premarket trade following the announcement.
The company said on Monday the plan will take effect immediately.
"We are now primarily a streaming video company delivering a wide selection of TV shows and films over the Internet," said Chief Executive Reed Hastings in a statement.

Look, another price hike on OD because streaming can't pull its own weight.

We will never know as Netflix has already stated that they will not breakdown the numbers in the future as to the streaming only plans.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with a streaming only plan. What I don't like is that disc renters are pretty much forced into a streaming plan, and Netflix seems to be falling way behind on stocking catalog BD titles. I am going to cancel my membership for about 3 months as I get caught up on all my discs that I am buying right now, and I also want to look into Blockbuster.com again since they get new releases.
Ironincally, the thing that always drew me into Netflix (great catalog and indie support) is the thing that seems to be driving me to look at other options.
If they can greatly improve the streaming experience (improved PQ and AQ), I would be more excited about the product. But it is really lacking for me. -

They've already imposed 28 (and soon 45 day) delays and have cut hack on catalog titles...maybe it's time to drop them.

I'm on the 1 disc plan with BD. I may just go with the $8 streaming plan. If I want to see a movie bad enough on BD, I'll just pay $1.50 at RedBox.

I'd love for you two to provide some proof for those claims. But I'm not going to hold my breath. But if that's how you feel thank you for your support. Can I get you to cover my 7.99 plan as well? Just start sending it to me via paypal. You guys can half it.
