Default Toshiba HD DVD Display & Players Pulled Off The Floor At Costco, Van Nuys, California

They were there as of Saturday...plenty of them, too. With the display for the 5 free discs coupons. Today, the display was thrown off to the side and not a player in site. I don't own either format at the moment, but I am watching the format war very closely. Could not get a single employee to comment on it, either. So what's going on here?

Maybe they sold them all? Or perhaps they were recalled for some reason? Who knows?

Maybe Amir or another HD DVD insider bought them all to pad the sales numbers

Seriously, this sounds very strange. I will be stopping by my local Costco this weekend and will see if they still have the display and players out here in Utah.

I think it would be quite unlikely for them to all sell that quickly, especially *AFTER* the big father's day promo. Also odd would be to have them just pulled.

I also noticed that they are only offering the A20 for $420+ online and not the A2..

I can confirm that the HD-DVD players and HD-DVD movies have been removed from the floor at my Costco in Central NJ. Last time I saw it there were like 3 players left then the next visit the display was gone and no HD-DVDs were in the DVD area. Ive seen this before with other items, usually there is a proposed change in location of the equipment or low inventory so they pull from the floor to allow for other product, then mysteriously it shows up again weeks later. I dont know the exact reason but I purchased 1 copy of every HD-DVD they had when available so Im happy. Just givin some heads up from NJ.

Costco aren't important.

I've never bought anything there and I don't know anyone who has.*

Wal-mart is the store that will have the most impact. Whoever gets players into Wal-mart for $99 will win the format war.

*This isn't true but I just want to be the first person to say that in this thread. I'm sure I won't be the last...

As usual, you bring a smile to my face Kid...

I usually let the fanboys make those comments...after all, if we make their comments for them, what do they have left to do? Paint pictures of HD-DVD players? Write blu-tiful poetry? hehe!

I'm forced to disagree.

If Blu-Ray can come out of the Holiday season with a 3-1 advantage {or more} and the stand-alone players are above what HD-DVD has, it won't matter beyond that who gets cheaper players into Walmart as the $99 advantage will be extreme desperation at that point.

Thanks for the update! I forgot to mention that at the Van Nuys store, they also pulled the remaining HD DVD stock...movies, that is. It just doesn't bode well, but that's just my opinion.
