Wal-mart is the store that will have the most impact. Whoever gets players into Wal-mart for $99 will win the format war.

i realize it's a joke, but i'm going to counter it anyway.

i think that the first player to a consumer friendly price such as $99 or below, will be the one that is losing and on its way out. i'm sure Betamax players got clearanced, when it was clear that they weren't going to be the dominant format. the other format will get to that price eventually, but in a much more profitable way.

I know that Costco are pretty big in the US. They have a sizable presence in the UK as well, with a fairly big store about 15 minutes away (by car) from me.

As to isn't/aren't, it's acceptable either way as Costco are a singular entity (the company, Costco) and a collective entity (Costco has lots of stores).

I tend to favour the collective as use of the singular can look odd in some cases:

Manchester United isn't winning.
Manchester United aren't winning.

The second option looks and sounds better than the first.

funnily enough, a lot of our heros we're English (although they usually stuck up for us against the ruling English classes)

As far as our English goes, we do use some wierd idoms, so we do as our English is Hiberno-English, in that it has been influenced by our 'offical' language of Gaeilge over the years.

All the HD displays at my costco run HD-DVDs, but as far as actual displays for HD-DVD specifically? They're gone. As are most HD-DVDs.

Did you mean to type 'Newcastle United'? That would sound even better.

I already did that in the general discussion.

Not only for your experience, but a place to post bandwidth friendly pics too.
Pictures of your local HD DVD/Blu-ray sections (Bandwidth friendly)
Of course when I started it I was laughed at by many, but now it seems like not such a bad idea eh?

Without pics it means nothing. If you were able to show the HD DVD players before and after, it would hold weight.
