Default Warner’s Total HD delayed until 2008

I for one, am glad that this is being pushed back. One can only wonder why Warner is doing this. I believe it is because they have faith that Blu-ray will pick up sales throughout Christmas and it won't be neccessary come C.E.S.

Or HD DVD will pick up sales? Because Blu-ray is doing just fine haha. I'm looking forward to these if they do release and still are good like seperate releases PQ wise. I sent Warner Bros. an e-mail thanking them for TotalHD development.

You believe it because you wish it. WB is actually pro-HD DVD...or haven't you noticed?

I tell you what I have noticed. WB have said that they are waiting on profile 1.1 (correct me if I'm wrong) to be finalized before putting out alot of their HD DVD "exclusives" on Blu-ray. Didn't you get the memo?

I would bet that it's because they're having technical problems or getting production costs down to where the discs are viable.

We know that Warner has been favoring HD DVD in the hopes of prolonging the war and forcing a stalemate for the simple reason that if a stalemate occurs, their Total HD disc could rule the market.

Releasing the Total HD disc sooner than later helps force a stalemate, delaying it past this critical holiday season only gives more time for BD to bury HD DVD.

The only other reason I can think of is that they believe HD DVD is a lost cause, and it's not worth investing any more in Total HD.

nope, they're pro TotalHD. they want HDDVD to survive as well so that they can make money off of TotalHD discs.

anyway, i'm glad at this announcement. hopefully HDDVD will be on its way out by then.

If and when this occurs I will simply not buy Warner titles anymore, I hate flippers.

I really hope this thing gets delayed permanently.. Unless the prices are equal to their current prices, but I am not too interested in buying these.

i am super glad, as much as i like the idea, the art work just sucks...makes me not want to put it in my collection although the side of the case doesn't tell the difference.

No surprise, I thought it was never going to happen anyway. I don't think it will happen next year either.

Actually, Warner Brothers is significantly responsible for Blu-Ray's success in many ways. Cinram was 100% HD DVD exclusive, and as the largest optical media replication company in the world, that was pretty much a death blow to Blu-Ray, because it would leave Sony as the only major manufacturing plant supporting Blu-Ray, and they could never meet the needed demand for product on their own. It was essentially Warner Brothers who forced Cinram to go dual format in the end

Warner Brothers has already stated there are no licensing fees for making TotalHD discs, over top of the regular HD DVD and Blu-Ray licensing fees. So they get nothing out of it if other studios use the discs.

Edit: That being said, they are heavily involved with Cinram, who is likely the only company that will be able to manufacture those discs, so it's possible something is going on in the background that isn't a licensing fee.

I'm really glad it got delayed. I'd rather have the highest bitrate & sound quality on Blu-ray & HD DVD.

I'm not sure we would get that with Total HD.
