interesting, though if you really want great reception I should think getting a rooftop model would beat that.

I built a gray-hoverman last fall. Used Sch 40 PVC and some 6 guage copper ground wire from the lowes miscut section. Cost me a whole $37 including pvc cement.
Here is a picture on my deck, before I painted it black for UV protection and capped the ends. I have a piece of twin lead soldered to the elements which feeds into a channel master amp on the pole.
Performance wise, I get stations from over 50 miles away. I left the reflector off so it's more bi-directional. Very low profile, measuring 24x36 inches approximately, barely any wind profile. I have it mounted 21ft above ground level.
Also, contrary to claims, I was able to use it for VHF also, even down to channel 2. It was so reliable, we canceled all pay tv services and can't say I regret it one bit.The angels have the phone box. -

I built this a month or so ago after I saw it on Create TV. I got 13 channels before with a $40 amplified antenna and now I get 20. Good design.

I don't see why people pay for thies things when you can make them. When I was having my first HDTV fixed the guy that came to fix it was telling me about doing this stuff. All because I had asked what was different from a 5 dollar antenna and a 50+ HD antenna. Thats when he said nothing and said you can make one for almost nothing. He took a paperclip, a wire with a clamp on the one end and a screwdriver. Put the paperclip in my tv, clamped the clamp on and wrapped the wire around the screwdriver. I was picking up over the air digital and HD. It was not coming in good but he had even said it would not be all the good of quality due to me being in a trailer. He said for me best bet would be to get an outdoor antenna. However Now I'm thinking about making my own.

Question about Coat Hanger Antenna?
Hi,
How far away can you pick up with it? What kind of parts do you need to get and how much does each cost? What measurement for the coat hanger and how far a part do they need to be to pick up uhf channels 65 miles and 100 mile ? What do the measurement have to be to pick up the higher vhf channels and what do the measurement need to be to pick up the lower vhf channels 65 miles and 100 mile? Email me back with photos.
Thanks,

I just built this and it only receives one channel. Waste of an hour.
