I'm really surprised. I thought it was a goner for sure. Are we seeing a shift in the philosophy of the networks? Do the ratings not mean what they used to? Are they placing more emphasis on DVR ratings and streaming services?

Still in shock...not that big of a fan of the show...wish they had been this charitable with Firefly. At any rate, it's nice to see them try to stick with Joss a little longer. I wonder if Terminator will get some love too?
I guess the set can be called 'Season 1' now instead 'Complete Series.'

I'm sad about Terminator but I'm glad at least Dollhouse is getting a fair shake at getting some momentum behind it. Terminator was sorta a victim of it's own meanderings of the second season's inane plotting. Sure it picked up quite a bit in the last 3 or so episodes of the season, but most of season 2 was just incoherent and wasn't terribly compelling IMO.

Hopefully Dollhouse will continue the Joss Wheadon trend of improving exponentially as it goes on (ala Buffy)

Boo, I would rather have had Terminator back over Dollhouse. I lost interest in Dollhouse just as my interest in Terminator was picking up. I think both would have been renewed had Fox also handled DVD/Blu-Ray distribution of Terminator. Grrr....Arggh

Woo hoo!

Joss Wheadon says he's going to have Summer Glau (Terminator SCC, Firefly) be in the 2nd season of Dollhouse!

I liked Summer the most in both her previous series, and glad to hear this!

Well just finished watching the season 2 premiere and I have to say it was a let down. The Season 1 finale was a let down to and I had hoped that Whedon could turn around things around in season 2 (and to be fair its just the first episode and i hope it gets better). It still seems like they don't know what direction they want to take this show. I will keep watching but I really wished Fox kept The Sarah Conner Chronicles going instead of this show. It was nice to see Apollo from BSG on this episode though.

Yea i didnt think the premeire was that great either. It may just be me but i dont like the character of ballard. i mean i just find him annoying. Now they're featuring him even more so in the dollhouse is bad IMO

Finally caught up with this last night. I didn't dislike the episode. There were a few really good character moments in it, especially the scene between Saunders and Topher.

But it really wasn't a very exciting episode, especially not for a season premiere of a series well known to be on-the-bubble. This isn't the sort of thing that will inspire any new viewers to tune in. Putting more cheesecake shots of Eliza in the opening credits won't be enough. I like the old credits better.

Was very surprised to see that Whedon both wrote and directed this ep. In most of his shows, the episodes with his direct hands-on guidance usually stand out. They usually have more wit, a little verve, and try to shake things up a bit. Not so much here. Disappointing.

I expect that Fox will pull the plug on this before it completes a full second season.

I liked the episode, but I agree that it could, and should, have been much, much better. There wasn't much to draw in new viewers that's for sure. I think it felt like Whedon-lite episode; there was some Whedesque moments, but not the usual amount of wit and humor.

I'm a bit torn because this is what we wanted -- more character development instead of the Echo-skank-of-the-week standalone episodes that we saw at the beginning of season 1. That said, I really don't care too much about any of these characters, so the character development doesn't have much emotional impact for me yet. I hope that changes.

Ratings were quite poor, so I don't see the show lasting the full 13 episodes either. On a different day with a different lead in, the show might have a chance, but not in its current slot.

The plot of the week also felt half-baked. Exactly how long was Echo undercover with the arms dealer that he would marry her? When she was in FBI Agent mode, Ballard had to check his notes to tell her that they'd been working together for 3 years. It was clear that was just the cover story she'd been programmed with. I doubt this season takes place 3 years after the last.

And Ballard was supposedly the client that paid for Echo's services. Where did he get the money for that if he's unemployed now?

Yes, that was pretty thin... I guess I assumed that he had become a 'client' in the sense of 'do this good thing or I blow the whistle', but they sure never explained that well.

Somewhat mixed reviews on the 2nd season opener in our household... my daughter and I liked it pretty well, my wife not quite as much. We'll all be continuing to give it a chance for now, but I agree that it wasn't at a level likely to attract new viewers.

Really enjoyed this last episode. I think this series is finally starting to hit its stride. The season premiere was a let down and I didn't care much for the second epsiode but every episode after that has been really good IMO. Nice back story about Sierra. Sucks that there won't be a new episode untill December 4 but it will be 2 hours and Summer Glau will be in it so hopefully its good as well.

Yes, the show finally seems to be hitting its stride this season. Unfortunately, by pulling it from November sweeps in favor of airing House re-runs during that critical ratings period, Fox has officially given Dollhouse a vote of No-Confidence.

They claim that they're going to air the rest of the episodes they ordered, but they've done the same to other shows in the past and then renegged on their promise. In any case, the show is dead. There will not be a third season.
