Hey guys, I'm fairly new and needing some advice. I've got a 42" LCD HDTV connected to my Mac mini and Xbox360 w/ HD dvd. I'm currently using the MS componant cables on the 360 and the optical audio cable for my sound system.
My tv has inputs for the following: componant VGA HDMI (obviously s-video and rca as well) which would be the highest quality cable I could use with my xbox for watching movies and games at 1080i? Currently the mac is hooked up using the HDMI port but I would switch it to VGA is there is an HDMI output for the 360 (no I don't have the elite). |

First of all there is no HDMI support for the Xbox 360 except for the Elite, so you're basically limited to VGA and Component. If you're going to be using your 360 to watch regular DVDs I would suggest connecting via VGA cable because the 360 will upconvert to a higher resolution over VGA.

that's for regular dvd's but what about games and HD dvds? I'm not AS critical of regular dvds but I want more out of the HD's.

I used to have the official Microsoft VGA cable for my Samsung DLP and thought component looked better so I sold my VGA., I hear that the spring update has helped with pic quality on the VGA though.

There's a 3rd Party HDMI adapter for the old 360s due out in a month or 2. It's being made by Teamxtender. It'll only do 1080i though but for most that's just fine.

then what would be the difference between the hdmi capable of 1080i and the component cables? wouldn't that be the same thing? i'd like the take advantage of the some of the hdmi outputs that i have, but i don't see the use of this.

vga outputs at 1080p. people have been saying that the vga output gets kinda grayish, but messing around with the blackness settings can make it look better.
personally, i'm using the vga right now, but might just have to go back to using component cables cause i don't have many settings to change that i'd like to. |

Meh, Some people want this anyhow. Me, I'm not interested personally. I think the ONLY Benefit is it'll have the Audio and Video together on 1 cable.
