Exclamation The Xbox 360 Elite thread. It is official!

http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/20/x...dmi-april-479/

Looks like it may be true after all!

Here's the article from engadget.

Quote:
Well what do you know, Microsoft's apparently preparing to launch the 360 in black with HDMI (and an HMDI cable, ha!), and a 120GB drive for $479 in late April, as rumored. Joystiq seems to think it's not a hoax, but instead a legitimate leak from Game Informer, which supposedly had the details. Also noted, the 120GB drive will be available separately for under two bills, no internal HD DVD (duh); no word on integrated WiFi (don't hold your breath). We're still skeptical, but hey, we're still very interested, too.

the leak suggests late April, but we'll see if that actually happens as scheduled.

Yeah I wouldn't mind not having a 360 for a month as long as it DOES actually come out in April. I would be pissed if I sold my 360 and had to wait longer than that.

I'm running out of HDMI inputs, and since I no longer own the add-on, I don't think HDMI will do much for me. BTW, I am fully aware that there are HDMI switchers. I'm gald they are doing it though, especially for the add-on users.

I just hope they keep the 20 GB, component cable version as well. Eliminating that would give MS a case of PS3 syndrome (high price = less market share). They need to give consumers options.

Default Black 120GB Xbox 360 with HDMI is real. It will launch in late April.

This looks really cool. If it's true I may trade in my current 360 to get this and I may just get the add on as well now since it will now have HDMI ports.

It is true. It has been confirmed that this is not an April Fools day joke by the magazine.

I really think I will get one now. I really did not like the 360 because you have to pay for Xbox Live, but this new 360 looks really sweet and plus I am getting a raise soon so I will have more money that I can use to pay for Live.

My friend Jason will enjoy playing some Live games with me now.

I just went through all the 360 games listed at IGN and I found 7 that I am interested in:

Halo 3
Gears of War (Played it with Jason)
Dead Rising (Played it with Jason)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Played it with Jason)
Worms
Mass Effect
Crackdown

lol... $480 + $200 + $100 + 50$... (XBX, HDDVD AO, wireless, and online access)

Hmmm $820 just to start out.. Seems like a rip to me. But this could be good for the PS3, so I say do it!!

But really, they would need to drop the console by $220 just to compete on price. I doubt we will see it selling for $260 anytime soon. (even tho it costs about that to build it)

But its a crappy deal. If you dont want HD DVD playback, maybe $500 isnt too much to swallow. But the ps3 is a much better deal if you want an optical HD format playback.

Especially given the current state of HD DVD and their craptastic title selection. Im all for MS doing this one.

If and when I get a 360, I'll be buying the highest end model.... Why buy a crippled console like the Core unit, or buy something thats just not as good like the current premium unit.... I'll take the 120 GB/Black plate 360 ... All it needs now is chrome on the outside...

Are they also coming out with a black colored add-on? Or is it still gonna be the same puke white?

hmm, I forsee a huge flood of 360's to hit ebay... effectively lowering the price of the used units.. I wouldn't mind picking up a used 360 for say, $50 or less

Actually, a friend of mine is pissed. He bought his 360 last year, (the higher end version) and now realizes he probably won't be able to get half of what he paid for it back to get the new one...

More Confirmation from Engadget:

It's called "Xbox 360 Elite" and the black one will be a limited edition. After stock of the black one runs out, the 120GB drive and HDMI output will be added to the Premium.

I have a question related to this although might be slightly off topic. If you were to buy this ELITE model, and wanted to sell your other model, how would you then transfer your information on your 20GB hd to the 120gb hd?
