Default HD DVD Emulator

I recently heard the 360 hd dvd emulator becoming free. Could someone please explain what the emulator is to me, in very simple terms, and should I bother getting it (i am an average joe).

it's not really intended for end users.

Where did you hear this? I've been waiting for this announcement for some time. If it happens it would be a big boost to the home authoring market...

The emulator basically lets you write HDi code and test it from a USB drive (on the 360) before burning it to a disc.
