Default XBox HD-DVD External Drive

The compressed driver file I am using is named as follows:
XBOX360HAX_XBOX360-1.HD-DVDRom.UDF.Reader.v2.5.WindowsXP-BluePrint.rar

Is this what you are using? It works fine on my WinXP/sp2 system.
Needless to say - I make no guarantees and you are on your own using this driver - I got it elsewhere, but it is working on my system.

additional info . . as i recall, this device is originally seen as an XBox device that does not consider the driver in the attached zip file to be valid for the device. But if you let it complete and then go into device manager, it is seen as a Toshiba drive device, and if you tell it to update its driver and point to the attached .inf file, it will apply it.
Attached Files
File Type: zip XBoxHDDVDWinXP.zip (40.0 KB, 9 views)

Downloaded the drivers and PowerDVD7, the free trial. When I insert an HD DVD into my add-on, I get "A disc with an unsupported format in drive E."

I read PowerDVD7 was sufficient. Is that wrong? Or am missing some steps for playback.

Assuming you have properly installed the driver . . if you open up Windows Explorer (the file browser - not the internet browser) can you see your hd-dvd disc in the drive - can you see folders and files on the hd-dvd disc?

you need an HD DVD player software for the movie to play... windvd 6.5 hd dvd edtion works and windvd 8 works too... not sure about version 7 though. i used my old pc with windvd 6.5 and me new one has 8 on it, which works with both HD DVD and blu-ray.

it's reading the files on the disc... first step in the right direction...

Thank you. I'm glad to know its just the software and my PC took the drivers ok. I think I need to buy an upgrade for v7 to get HD playback, so the free trial edition won't work. Looks like I need to make an investment now for the correct software.

ccphilly, let me ask you since you seem to have your HD add on working, when you stop a movie in the middle of watching it(on TV, not CPU), does your Xbox HD player start the movie from the beginning again when you press "play"?? All the other DVD players I've had would resume from where I left off. I just recently got the HD add-on and it always start over after I press the "stop" button. Is there any way to get it to resume where I left off???

I do not have a movie player able to handle hd-dvd either, but I know the drive is working properly since I can see all the folders and files and actually did a test rip of a hd-dvd disc to make sure everything was accessible. That was why I asked the question about being able to see folders and files.

I believe the PowerDVD version you need is "PowerDVD Ultra" to play a hd-dvd.
There is another thread in here where someone posted a link to another player that permitted a trial period. I downloaded it but have not tried it yet. You might look for that if you want to experiment a bit.

i dunno... i watch movies all the way through... are you talking about playback through the 360? what i'd do if that came up would be to bookmark the scene for later referance... many HD DVDs have this feature... if i pause it for along period, a screensaver comes up (on uni titles) if i unpause it, the movie resumes. only did a test on the HD addon on my pc... the computer i used it on was too slow for full FPS action and my new one has a blu burner/hddvd rom combo drive in it.

I havent noticed on the xbox, but when the drive is in a PC and you are using PowerDVD, PowerDVD supports playback from where it left off.
